Have a few questions regards to food that can't grow with the snakes. I like offering my snakes (except Mushu) as much variety as I can. Now my retic Kaa is still between a day old quail and week old quail feeder wise. The day olds seem small and the week old too big for him at this point. The week olds are the same size as day chicks. Is it a good idea to offer day chicks as part of his rotation when he reaches that size or stick to food that will grow with him? What would be the effects? Positive? Negative? None?

Don't know enough to know the impact of offering feeders that the snakes will eventually outgrow the biggest size available.

Being a retic, I doubt he will be very picky if you wanted to offer the day old chicks until he outgrows them. Plus, an adult could probably take a large bird like a chicken or adult quail or whatever you have available to you.

I have quail as well. He will always get those when he is ready. Chicks were as well as.

Quail in usa are very expensive. Do you grow them yourself? I mostly use rodents, I breed some and buy the rest, but day old chickens is much cheaper and larger than day old quails at least here. I have used the quails only for species which are too small for day old chickens but prefer birds to rodents.

No they are bought but up here quail is cheaper then rats. It's not for price it's for variety.

My feeding is rodent, bird, rodent, bird. My BCI until he grows enough is rat, quail, asf, day chick.

I have a few snakes that have outgrown day old chicks and take much larger rodents. I still toss the chicks to them as treats and snacks. Same with asfs and mice. I just mix it all into their diet with rats as the staple. Do you usually feed just one prey item? I might give a critter a medium rat one feeding, a small rat and a chick the next, and a asf and jumbo mouse the next time. They never know what's coming. Right now all the snakes eat whatever I offer them with the exception of the albino carpet who barely eats anything :(.
