Rubbermaid escape proof?

I'm getting a pair of juvenile bamboo rat snakes this week. I'm going to be housing them in Rubbermaid tubs. My question is, with such a small snake are the lids on these secure enough? Is there normally a gap they could escape from? Thanks in advance for the help

I have some IRIS brand weatherproof locking storage containers that I use as spare enclosures. For something like a bamboo rat, I'd consider them escape proof. The corners may be able to be pried by a larger snake, but it shouldn't be a problem for what you're keeping. Plus there's this foam lining inside the lid that makes it airtight when locked. The only way you'd have an escape is if you drilled the airholes that big.

So I should go for something with a locking lid? I've just never kept anything so small, I wouldn't want to lose the little guys. I'll be sure to drill small holes :)

It really depends on the lid design on the tubs that you are considering. Most people use rack systems, where the shelf secures the lid of the tub below- or no lids are used at all.
Sterilite makes a series of clear enclosure that have latches on them. I have used them as stand-alone enclosures for small snakes and have not had escapes. However, you should never underestimate a snakes ability to escape. I would say that if you have any doubts, use a board that completely covers the tops of the enclosures, and secure it or weigh it down with something heavy.

When I was using rubbermaids/sterlite containers I would buy some velcro tape from a craft store and basically reinforce the long sides (the sides that easily push up if you pull on them) and never had an escapee. I just felt better because they weren't going in a rack.

I have a rack in my snake room, it's just that temps in the room are too high for the bamboo rats. I suppose I could build something quick for them. The Velcro tape sounds like a good idea too. Thanks for the help guys :)

I breed coxi, hatchlings cannot escape sterilite 6L with locking lid as long as you do not drill large holes in it. Use 1/8" or 1/16th" drill bit. Weatherseal type boxes would be even more secure, but I've kept many for a few weeks until they sold in the 6L sterilite with the lid that clamps on both ends without escape.
