Look into replacing the heat pad, using a ceramic heating element or a bulb. I'm sure someone will come along and expand on this. Don't put it in bed with you...that will not solve the problem not will it be good for the snake.

Best to replace the heat pad to a "ultra-therm" bc these are more animal friendly wattage wise. However with any heating element it needs to be regulated by a thermostat. Absolutely paramount. Any unregulated heating element is a hazard to the animal by potentially spiking to extreme temperatures and causing burns and generally overheating the enclosure in the "hot spot" area. Not to mention the risks of fire to your apartment or house. Thermostats are the most important piece of equipment you will need for housing reptiles.

Replace the heat pad and make sure it's controlled by a thermostat. Not sure we have ultra therm ones over here but Habistat are a good make.

If you can make it over to Manchester Urban Jungle a few minutes walk from Piccadilly has everything you need. Alternatively if prefer online the Swell.

Otherwise once you've got the temperature sorted and it's only with you for a month just make sure it has fresh water and just leave it alone. If your nephew fed it before he went away it won't need feeding, if he didn't it make take a meal but may refuse. It's no particular issue either way.
