Came home today to a tub full of baby garters. Really didn't expect these guys until June, but......i'll take it. There are 16 live scrubs and 6 stillborn. The Mom is still laying so I will post pics tomorrow. She is a 2 year old and this is her first litter.

Put me down for one when they're established and ready to move along.. Thanks tnb. Gotcha. These guys are from unrelated parentage and are looking pretty good.
[QUOTE=Minkness;1024563]If these are the neon blues put me down for a pair![/QUOTE. Yep! They are neon blues Mink. The male is a exceptional one from Scott Felzer's "pianchi" line. The other gravid female is a awesome example of the subspecies. Waiting for her to drop any day now. Thanks.

Here is the story guys. Female t.s.infernalis delivered 13 live scrubs (babies) and 7 stillborns. Her first litter from a extremely healthy female and male. Both are neon blue California red sideds with the male being a exceptional "pianchi" line from Scott Felzers stock.

Very very pretty. Congratulations. Must be said I'm getting a bit of a yearning for some garters and I have the perfect spare enclosure.
As for the reproductive side of the hobby I can't wait to get started as I can imagine the challenge and reward is a real buzz.

Purty...real purty! Almost makes me want one...almost! Thanks Scuba! Garters are a very cool species to interact with. The multitude of morphs is exploding. Pioneer Jeff Benfer aka the garter snake morph recently produced a worlds first erythrystic albino golden eastern garter snake.
Albert, PM a price for a 1.1 pair with shipping included please.. PM sent. Thanks Mink.
If I was going to have a garter, this would be it!!! Gorgeous babies!. Thanks TR. These guys (Infernalis) are a very sought after subspecies. Almost a must have. Lol.

The babies of this subspecies color up with their red as they shed out. You can see a couple of them are already more colorful than their siblings. Parents are unrelated and both first timers in breeding and producing.

Oh, those are some cute little worms. Mom and Dad are knockouts!. Thank you SD. Yep the parents are a superior mix no doubt. The male came from a breeder in South Carolina, the female from a breeder in Iowa..

Wooooooow. Are these San Francisco ones? They look like them, but I could be wrong. Cause I thought the San Fran ones were illegal to have since they have such a small habitat. Asking cause I love the looks of these. OOOok I answered my own question: They are not! haha. So pretty. Is there regulations about selling to someone in California if you know?
I actually went to a lecture about the Giant Garter snakes we get around my area... to go a little off the topic.

I actually went to a lecture about the Giant Garter snakes we get around my area... to go a little off the topic.. Thanks. No. These are not T.S. Tetratenia (San Francico garter snake), who are federally protected. These are T.S. Infernalis (California red sided) whose conservation status is now threatened in the wild. I would think that selling them to someone in California could be illegal as they are a native species to the state.
T. Gigas ( Giant garter snake) also has a conservation status of "threatened". Native to California. Neither Infernalis nor Gigas are federally protected but are on the state level as native species that are threatened.
I've been wanting a group of garters with blue! Price? (or pm me) if you are shipping them? How early can you tell gender on the species?
Congratulations, Albert. A very nice garter sp. to look at for sure.

I've been wanting a group of garters with blue! Price? (or pm me) if you are shipping them? How early can you tell gender on the species?. Sure! Will do the pm on the details. Once they start putting on size you can tell. Usually by popping them when they are this small. They have been a bit challenging to get started feeding. A couple are better feeders than others.
Congratulations, Albert. A very nice garter sp. to look at for sure.. Thanks Andy. They are nice to look at.
Yeah you're probably right. But man oh man these are lovely. I want one haha. Thank you. They are very colorful and can sometimes have a little attitude as youngsters as they put on a little size.

These guys have been very challenging to get started on food. All of them have eaten several meals but have a ways to go before they are ready for new homes. Still waiting for my other female Cali to drop her litter. Stay tuned.

How do you convince the little ones that they want to eat?
Albert Clark
06-09-17, 11:31 AM
How do you convince the little ones that they want to eat? Well, I have been offering different things to elicit a feeding response. I started with nightcrawlers diced up with Reptivite multivitamin powder dusted over them on a little inverted 32oz. Juice jar cap. Some of them enjoyed that right away but others just hid or didn't investigate the food offered. Before that, I did separate them into smaller groups of 4 as it's easier to see who is feeding best and who are the slower ones. The picky ones I offered live guppies. I had some Sally's f/ t silversides diced up mixed with cut up nightcrawler and also dusted with Reptivite. So, a little variety seems to have gone a long way with these guys bc now I am seeing a little growth. I tried cut up pinky mice parts earlier on but none of them went for that. Probably will be different soon.

All of the babies are doing well and love musking their handlers. They havent been bitey at all but now as they get more size it will help to handle them every other day. Exceptions being day before and after feedings. The second adult female isn't going to produce this time. I am trying to put a different male to her later this year.

These guys and gals will be coming available by the 25th of July. Still squirmy and tail whipping with the musking but no biters. I am consistently trying to gain their confidence. Lol.

I just came across your ad on one of the classifieds sites, Albert. Just wanted to tell you how nice your cali reds are. Gorgeous snakes. I have other plans right now, but in the future, I could see a nice bio habitat with one of these in it as a display in my reptile room.
