There is a certain club which is for men only. There are 600 men who belong to this club and 5% of these men wear one earring. Of the other 95% membership, half wear two earrings and the other half wear none. How many earrings are being worn in this club?

I like 600 too that is if those who are wearing one earing are wearing ONLY one earing. Those who are wearing two earing are also wearing one earring. Twice. ah, brain freeze. Dirty GMATs have warped my thinking forever.

Half of 95% wear 2 earrings, half of 95% wear none = averages out to 95% wear one earring.
Also, 5% wear one earring
95% + 5% = 100%
Total = 100% wear one earring = 600 earrings

Those of you that came up with 600 are correct.

When you subtract the number of people wearing 1 earing (30) from the total you end up with 570 left. of those 1/2 (285) are wearing no earings (0) and the other half are wearing 2 earings (2x285=570) added with the 30 that wear 1 earing you get 600.

basicly the people wearing 2 earings make up for the people wearing 1 earing.
