What do you feed that little beady fella?

They are amazing looking lizards, probably the closest thing to a hot I would ever even remotely consider owning. In my dim brain it's a lot harder for a terrestrial lizard to bite you then a snake that can strike at all angles up high at high speed.

Have you seen the speed and angle at which a Gila can have you?!

Agree though. Awesome creature.

No, but I did say in my dim mind. Seems less dangerous then a hot snake. I still wouldn't keep a hot because in the even you need to get really hands on then risk is high.

He gets eggs and rodents mostly mate :)

I have to agree with you both here. While these lizards can move fast and bite at some weird angles and they're definitely not to be messed with, personally I would rather deal with one of these guys than a snake jmo :)

Cute little guy :) My bf just recently picked up a 6-7 inch baby.... that thing is full of piss and vinegar lol. I would say they definitely make me a lot less nervous than a venomous snake but they've got some pretty big teeth (and venom of course :D)

Have you ever caught a whiff of the venom, Dave? Our little guy bit a paper towel and its an interesting smell....very chemical smell

Yip this wee dude is the same, not to be messed with. And I can't say I've smelt the venom, the only thing he's ever got hold of is rodents, and when he gets the hold of them your not getting them back :D

I saw a wild one in Nevada. I was with a local and apperntly this thing hangs out in the exact same hole on this huge rock everyday. A bunch of atv tourists came by to take a look and one of them decided to start throwing little pebbles at it. The fat guy lept out of his hole so fast and chased the dummy a good 50-60 meters. Too bad he didn't get a little nip in.

I'd would have paid good money to see that :D
