Picking up a 1yr old Red Bull Snake this morning in Williamsburg VA. Seller needs to sell, and he's only asking $100 for the snake, Zilla 40gal viv, furniture, lights, food, and thermostat...it was too good to pass up, even with the gas expense driving down here in my pickup. I'll post pics later.
So, this will bring my total to six snakes since late February, two Pythons and four Colubrids, and I have another purchase, a Orthriophis taeniuru. lined up for next week to give me number seven and my fifth Colubrid.
Time to start purchasing some stackable vivs I guess...

Bull snakes are another awesome snake to keep Scuba. Your collection is growing quickly and impressively. :)

I tried to get one before, another red w/black tipping, an impressive looking snake by the pictures posted, but they never responded to my emails.
The "beauty" I'm getting next week is gold and black, a great looking adult snake.
Awesome choice! Can't wait to see pics! Where are you buying from?

I've been scouring the local Craigslist ads looking for people wanting to "get rid" of their snakes. For this purchase I got the stand, the Zilla 40gal viv, thermostat, ceramic heater (forgot the acronym), incandescent lamp, water dish, and some extra Aspen.
I've only had my juvenile King, Corn, and BP for a few months, but I'm enjoying the older snakes more. So, I found this Red Bull Snake for sale south of me and now I have him (?) home and I'm letting him settle in.
The first thing he did was head for the corner and bury his head in the corner and layer all his coils on top...you'll see in the pics below:

Flash enhanced to bring out a little color until I can take him outside for some natural light shots...

Basic quarantine setup...owner already had Aspen and the water bowl in the viv, so I left them and just added the two hides.

Congrats! He's awesome. :D
Of the options I like the reds far better than the yellows but personally I'll take a good dark mostly black and brown. Although my chocolate splotched with yellow spacing texas bull I picked up dirt cheap has grown on me partially because he has my favorite personality. He's a whole lot of talk and no action so it's entertaining and then I can handle him just fine.
That's a pretty docile response from a bull snake. He could just be that calm, which is good for the future, but if he doesn't get active come evening I'd question the level of stress he's under and maybe cover some sides for a couple days in a sheet or cardboard (watch temp changes when you insulate glass depending how you are heating). Usually they are up and about threatening to eat you while doing their best rattlesnake impersonations until they settle in but that's a very open setup.

Nice pickup! Maybe he's going into a shed cycle?

He seems okay now: He was out and about after an hour...I watched him head for his water bowl and then take a bath.

Now that you mention it, I think the seller mentioned he had gone blue and just cleared up today or yesterday. Now I can't wait to see how bright the red is when he sheds!

Very nice critter Scuba. He's a good sized yearling. It does look like he might be due for a shed soon. I bet he's really gonna brighten up after that. Your setup can work but I'd swap out the hides for something a little more secure. Keep the pics coming!

I need to order one of those boxes for my CP...he barely fits in the overturned planter drain pan I have him in now.
I plan on ordering two more 4'x2'x19" BoaMaster melamine vivs next payday, then take a weekend trip down to pick them up, like I did last week. When I do that, I think the Albino King and this Bull will be moving from terrariums to the melamine vivs, and I'll also be replacing their hides as well.
If the Bull sheds in the next few days, I'll be feeding him since he's was due for a feed today.

Very nice snake. Still sorely tempted by a bull.
For hides I much prefer cork bark but purely from any aesthetic point of view...

Congrats on the new addition. Love the colors on him.
That's a nice red and a very nice pick up! Novody is focused on reds up here...yet. ;)
I use natural stone flooring tiles. My big Kankakee has 2x2 square of 12" tiles on 8" high bricks. I gorilla glued 6" marble boxes for my rosy which don't look quite as natural as the balanced on stone block tiles but it works plenty well for quick $1 or 2 per tile houses. I have some 3x8" slate tiles down 4" high stone supports for my baby python so I can peel individual ones up to see him without the whole thing. If I can I stack real, wild collected rock but the weight is so much more than just supporting flat tiles. Slate breaks occasionally if heated or wet frequently but eh $1 and now I have odd sized pieces to use. It files off easy if necessary for sharp edges or fit. The 12" tile had to be filed for the 12" wide 20g long with about 5 mins of effort.
