So I've had my red tail boa for over a year now, and when I got him he was just a baby, the place didn't give me an age, but I knew that he was about almost a foot long, now he's almost 3 feet. I know that his sizes might not help, but Anyway, I was just wondering if a baby red tail boa being hyper and kind of throwing theirself around is normal behavior? I hope he doesn't have any neurological issues. He slithers just fine, but when I hold him, he gets hyper for a little while then calms down. I have another snake but always wash my hands after/before handling the other. I know it's hard to diagnose any of those issues without going to a vet, but I'm not in any sort of situation to take him to one due to financial issues. I do research and find nothing. Also he mostly stays on his cool side. He goes to his warm side maybe 3-4 times a month, and idk, just need some advice maybe lol

I had a female boa who used to do the exact same thing, and she was healthy. I gave her to a friend she's now around 6ft and still does the same thing now and again so imo it's nothing to worry about. It's probably just the initial contact he doesn't like, but once he realises you not gonna hurt him he calms down

Yes, young ones can be quite awkward when handling. Make sure to support his entire body as much as possible, especially allowing him a place to anchor his tail.
My big jungle girl is also like this, but I think that has more to do with the fact she doesn't want to be on me than it is about awkwardness. AFAIK she grew up only knowing one person, so she's a little nervous around me but hasn't gotten defensive thus far. She's been handled often, just not by a lot of different people.

Lol, alright. Thanks! It's so cute how they always wrap their tail around something.
