CalKing Behavior

I have owned a CalKing for about a year and half now and not once has it bitten me or deficated on me.

I was just wondering if other CalKing owners have had problems with this kind of behaviour, or is it just a rare occurance.

kings for the most part dont bite.....as for defication well it happens with most spiecies one of my balls did it to me today and I have him out everyday for the last two years and this is the first time he has done it to me......but it does happen! When they got to go they got to go :)

I have found, in my limited experience, that young cal kings are a bit high-strung. I have been bitten by some of my juviniles and musked on by each one of them many times! ;) They should calm down with a little patience and work on your part though.

The two adults I have right now are polar oposites. One is a nice calm female and the other is a terror! :D

Knowing what I know now, which I'll admit is not "that" much, I wouldn't choose a cal king if I were to choose one type of snake as a pet. They have a lot of nice qualities, but they are a bit too jumpy for my tastes. I do like them though.....

Always individuals...the species considered the meanest will have its baby individuals...the snake species considered a baby will have its big time biters...:)

My cal king has been a baby since the day I got him when he was about 18 inches long.

most young snake will be more nippy than a well adjusted adult, but i got a female albino cali king at work that always wants to bite. and a female striped cali king that is a baby.

I have to say that most of the albino calikings (adults especially) are nasty, they musk AND bite. I did recently acquire an adult male caliking who is very nice except for a crazy feeding response.

Most other regular calikings can be darlings as adults, as long as they're given TLC during their rowdy growing up stages.

I have heard before that the albinos are less calm than normals, but we have had some of each color that are idiots - very hyper when first picked up and musk occasionally when youngsters but they settle down quickly as they mature, and we have never had any that have bitten. All of ours have intense feeding responses though - one of the things I like about them. Our old male is so mellow he will play dead if you put him on his back and position him in a circle - he is just like a garden hose - great snake!

What I love about Cal Kings as pets is that they are always out checking things out - whenever I come into the room they are looking out of their houses - and they frequently come out to bask, like to lie on their tree limbs and seem very curious. While I think corns are maybe more handleable as youngsters, the cal kings are pretty entertaining.

Kings seem to have "personality" in their faces. That's what I like about mine anyway.

He has never bitten me but does musk every so often. Just after eating he is a different animal though...he follows me through the glass and strikes if I get close. It's funny but I leave him alone for a while so he calms down.

thats normal...most snakes get in a mood after feeding its always best to leave them be for a day or so anyway!

Well, mine musks if startled and goes nuts around food, and when one of my friends was over she nailed me best she could lol. She's coming up on 8 months of age and really calm when I take her out unless she is still digesting food. I usually have to wait about 3 days after she eats before I can take her out or she'll dart and musk like crazy.

I have 2 CalKings, a Banana and an Albino Snow. Of the 2, I think the Banana is the calmest, although the snow isn't any monster. I can tap on the Banana's tank if he's in his hide and he will come out and crawl onto my hand. The snow just more or less "sniffs" me when I'm picking her up. Neither have ever musked, and the only one to bite was the Banana. The first time he bit me, I was getting him out of my daughters shirt when he crawled up her sleeve, the other time he bit me, he was crawling up my pant leg and got the top of my foot when I was getting him out. So I guess he just doesn't like being pulled on :D
I did have an Albino Banana, that recently passed away. She would musk and rattle, but never bit. All in the individual snake I think.

I am very new at owning snakes, but I have a cal king, a mex black, a snow, and a pueblan milk. My favorite is my cal king he runs when I try to pick him up as they all do they are all under a year,but he will wrap around my wrist like a snake bracelet. If he gets really upset with me he will defecate on me.
