poor diamondback rattle snake. It looks like it was killed? If it is shame on the person for killing an awesome animal.

It's a shame the snake was killed. But that's a forced perspective pic to make the snake look a lot bigger than it actually is ;)

I have to admit mate I do the old forced perspective pics sometimes myself for a laugh :)
Mate, Please one of you provide an example of a "forced perspective pic" (of a snake)similar to the one I posted. Why waste time assuming? You could just ask. Lets see what you got

If you hold something out in front of you to take a picture, it makes whatever you're holding look bigger as it is in the forefront of the picture and is called forced perspective. There's no assumption happening here as that's what is going on with this picture, without question. Thank you for the picture, regardless of everything else, it is a cool shot.

Oh wait, just a three foot corn snake. Same snake two minutes later.

Forced perspective, oldest trick in the book. Perfected by fishermen, adopted by everyone else who wants to exaggerate the size of something.
It is a cool photo, but that diamondback isn't particularly large.
The snake in the op was over 11 feet and weighted 112 pounds. He was holding it with a towel or glove almost against his body and you could see his bicep flexing. The guy in your photo wouldnt be able to even lift it by himself. Your comparison photo is a joke:laugh:. Nice broomstick. Good luck guys

Not looking an argument with you mate but if you look closely in the original photo, it looks like he's holding it on the end of a stick. Not close to his body, I've seen a lot of these sort of pictures before done with retics. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree :). Nice pics eminart ;)

LOL. You might want to read up about the record size for a rattlesnake. You've been had.

Hahaha 112lb rattlesnake? It's a cool pic that's for sure, not saying it isn't a big rattler but 11' 112lbs? Probably a 7 footer and a fraction of that weight. Nice cornsnake eminart, 9' 80-90lbs?

Daisy was 14ft and weighed 103Lbs in this pic, so I think the weight may be slightly off

Not looking to shoot you down mate, just showing you how inaccurate some of these claims are :)

112 pounds is easy to lift. try lifting 500 pounds bub.

Snake in the OP was 11 feet huh? Well, even without forced perspective, that would make the guy in the photo almost 7 foot 5. Explain that, please.
OP you have issues. It's a snake, not your *****. You're coming in there saying "My ***** (snake) is huge" and people are saying "No that's forced perspective" and "Come on guy my ***** (snake) is at least 11 feet long"
Get over yourself.
I used to catch 2 foot dekay's snakes and tell people I had caught a 6 foot monster. I really believed it was 6 foot. We all know rulers were hard to come by way back in the day because of the great ruler fire of 1924. No way that snake was 11 foot.
Now THIS guy is well endowed:

That's awesome, MisterSprinkles.
Nobody noticed the rattle hanging down on his boot. Because he is holding it with a stick, right guys? Hey thanks Andy G. for the link

Hey, let's go easy on the OP. It's an old family photo with a story and sentiments attached to it and we can be a little more sensitive to that.
OP, we're usually a lot nicer than this. Don't let this scare you off.
With all due respect and from a neutral standpoint, the snake is not as large as it appears. Forced perspective has been around as long as photography has been around. Just the way one holds an object can greatly enhance its perceived size. In this case the snake is on a stick and being held toward the camera.
It looks like it *was* a fairly good sized snake. I suspect he was either very proud of it and wanted to present it to its best advantage, or maybe he thought he'd have a bit of fun with it and play a joke on the viewer. If he was known for having a sense of humor and enjoying practical jokes that might be your answer right there.
Although I'm always sad to see a snake killed, it's still a neat picture both from a historical standpoint and for how your relative was able to pull that off. Think about it: his prank is still working on people generations later! That's a joke with serious staying power and IMO it makes that photo even more special.

it's in front of his boot.. not on his boot.
:)If the responses in this thread are good for anything, it's a good chuckle.
And ya all want to seem so smart but nobody even cared to read Andy's link which was were the "documented" length and weight originated (c/o Sandra Thurlow). Whoevers amateurish attempts at explaining photographic concepts went unread. Comparing with a snake on a couch and on broomsticks. Serpentine, he is actually holding it with a glove not a stick. LMAO!! Ego is a hell of a drug guys. But good luck and thanks for the laughs. :Wow:I am done.
