I started out the same as you, just collecting some info and getting to know everyone. However, beware! Once you get snakes, you can't stop! I've heard some compare it to a disease.....I am already looking into another snake:laugh::laugh:

Currently I have an Irian Jaya carpet python (Morelia spilota harrisoni), a boa constrictor (Boa imperator), a Solomon Island ground boa (Candoia paulsoni), an Amazon tree boa (Corallus hortulanus), a pair of olive pythons (Liasis olivaceus) - all wild type, that is their natural markings.

I also have a patternless albino Texas black rat snake (Pantherophis obsoletus) and a European eyes lizard (Timon lepidus).

On hold with the breeder I have a pair of Sorong barneck scrub pythons (specifically Morelia amesthystina amethystina) and a Madu locality reticulated python (Python reticulatus). The locality is important here because unlike a mainland retic which could get to 20' + this chap will probably get to 5' max.

So not much really ;)

For a beginner rat snakes are good, corn snakes are always suggested, royal pythons (ball pythons to you over in the US). For something a bit different I don't see why a boa imperator or carpet should be ruled out so long as you research first.

There's loads of choice so I'd suggest trawling through the forum here and see what snakes really interest you then research, ask questions and narrow down from there.

Bear in mind as well a proper set up could cost $200+ and sometimes much more. Food is relatively cheap but factor in emergency money for verbs etc.
