My 9 year old daughter almost stepped on this snake,
while fishing the banks of a canal close to the Florida Everglades.
What species could it be. I know the picture quality is not ideal and it's hard to see the head on the picture. She got really scared (my daughter, not the snake!)
Snake was roughly 4ft in length and not shy.

Juvenile Florida Banded Water Snake (Nerodia fasciata pictiventris) eating a small fish, harmless. Looks to be around 10-12 inches. These are very shy, it was just distracted by the task at hand, eating that tasty fish. Teach your daughter not to fear wildlife, only to respect it. No reason to go through life afraid.
