View Full Version : Picking size
Hey all! Just wanted to know if there where some rules of thumb about picking size of enclosure? I think I read something about the L and W needing to be 3/4 of the animals length. so does that mean a 4ftLx 2ftWx whatever height could house a six foot snake or smaller?

I usually just eyeball the size needed, it differs per species. But Length + Width = total length of snake is a good starting point.
Some go by length+width of enclosure should be equal to total length of snake, others go by 1 square foot of floor space per foot of snake. As Tsubaki mentioned, it differs between species due to thickness of said species as well as activity level.

Length+width is only a guideline. Girth, species and activity level are the other variables to consider. Within species individuals vary as well.
