I've got to wonder what the import paperwork is like to bring a snake like that to Ireland or the rest of the British Commonwealth?

Stunning creature. Am I right in thinking you can keep pretty much what you want in the Republic but NI follows UK law in respect of DWA etc?

You're both correct to keep certain animals you need a DWAL ( Dangerous Wild Animal Licence) in the UK and N.Ireland. But in Southern Ireland no licence is required, you can have anything from a saltwater crocodile, till a black mamba and there's nothing the law can do about. This girls owner lives on the north coast of Donegal, and asked could we hold her till she was picked up by her new owner from Dublin. Since we've had dealings with both guy's before we said sure :)

That's a beautiful rattler, that noise would drive me insane though.

Thought that was the case Dave. Bit bonkers but hey, if that's the law and all that. No more crazy than not needing DWAL for certain constricting snakes imo.

I have to agree, luckily the resident albino never rattles :)

I agree mate you would think it would be a mad house south of the border, but they seem to police themselves very well. As for licensing large snakes I think it would be a mess, there's to many big snakes already out there. I don't know how you would start to enforce it jmo :)

Oh I know the horse has long since bolted. I mean the fact they were never DWA in the first place.
I know you and others on here are very responsible giant keepers but you only need to spend 10 minutes on Facebook to see just what idiots some people are when it comes to keeping them.
I would include my incoming scrubs in the same category - not quite as big but possibly even quicker and barely less powerful.

Don't get me wrong Danny I totally agree with you, my mate who keeps the hots says I'm mad for keeping big snakes. And I think he's bonkers for keeping hots, I guess it's all down to what you're comfortable with. But then I once heard some one say there's no antivenom for construction. And I would give your scrubs just as much respect as would any large snake ;)

Oh they will be getting that in spades!
