Hey all

My little carpet is only a year old and I didn't really plan to acquire or build an adult cage so soon. I knew I wanted a 4x2x2 and was most likely going to build it or have a wooden one built. I thought she would be awhile before outgrowing her exo terra. Out of curiosity (maybe a bad decision) I thought I'd check the local classifieds to see what people were selling. Sure enough one of the first recent listings was this 4x2x2 cage with lots off stuff. It was built to house a burm at a local reptile zoo and sold and most recently held a bearded dragon. Some of the accessories are beardie oriented so don't have much use but for $150 for everything I had to make a move. I couldn't make a cage like this for that price or even close much less everything else. I'll swap the infrared bulb for a CHE, have to get a cover to keep my carpet off it and swap the CFL for an LED bulb to avoid glass breaking. The light will probably just be for convenience but the person that made it has independent grounded plugs. It has glass sliding doors (I had to remove them to move this thing into my basement by myself).

Please excuse it being dirty, I just quickly placed the branches in for the picture. They are being cleaned and I have to clean the cage, the wood is black veneer on the outside, the joints are not sealed so I'll be sealing the bottom area with clear silicone to prevent mold or rotting.

Right now my carpet is a worm under 100g in a 24x18x24 exo terra. I thought she would have grown faster then she has so at her current rate might be another year before she really outgrows her current cage. I have a few fake plants and stuff I could clutter the cage with. My question is when would it be okay to move her to her big home?

I still have a few things I need to do, install a stat, tweaking heat source etc.

First thing I notice is the bare bulbs...a definite no no. Fluorescent or LED inside or move the bulbs outside and screen the openings. Too much danger of a burn there.

That is a CFL ( compact florescent) and I stated I would be changing to LED as I know the glass is fragile and I would be getting a cover for a CHE.

Oops, apologies...I was just looking and not reading. :sorry:

I was originally thinking about a heat panel but this is already pre wired and setup for a CHE so will use that for now. A lot cheaper and it's ready to go. Getting a cover might be hard, might have to make something.

Its odd- in the UK just about every reptile shop sells cages for che's yet you guys find them almost impossible to source.

I'd add some more branches, some thinner ones at all different heights. Young carpets love to climb (as to older ones but less so). Mine spends 90% of his time pretending to be a gtp.

With the branches I'd also tie some fake vines to them. I'm growing uni and ficus in my carpet Viv so ultimately the fake plants will be replaced by real ones.

Nice looking cage Blaze. I'm sure you can make it work. I found a light cover on Amazon that might work. On another note, how long have you had your carpet? 100g at a year old is a bit small.

She is closing in on a year old. I don't have her current weight. I haven't weighed her in awhile. She also is quite active in my hands so keeping still long enough would be difficult.

Go figure can't get that here, always get screwed up here.
