Been a while since I've been here-still trying to sort out the house move but should be on th next week or so.

To christen the new reptile room through I've bagged a cb16 1.1 unrelated pair of L olivaceus. Very rare in the UK and just had to snap them up. Big plans for their enclosures when they're bigger :)

They're still at the store for now but here's the shop pic of what I think is the female. Can't wait to get them home...

Very nice mate and nice to see you back :). I hope the move goes well for you

When it eventually happens. We were meant to complete a few weeks ago but such is the joys of property transactions.

At least I have a 2 room cellar to look forward to and these will fit right in :)

Not even at Houten? They're not common though by any means-been trying to talk myself out of these but couldn't pass up.

Future breeding project now :)

Great addition Danny! I got a 2016 CBB male Olive back in January and he's a blast so far! Looking forward to seeing many more pics of your critters!

Saw that post El-beautiful snakes aren't they. My local store has had 2 pairs this year, the first sold in 20 mins.

These have been there longer but I feared that someone else would snap them up before I was properly ready for them so I've paid in full (not cheap but not wildly expensive for what they are) and will pick them up in a couple of weeks.

Out of interest what's the going rate for them over there?

You can get a normal male in the US for $350-$400. I never see lone females for sale.

That's pretty reasonable. I paid somewhere around $940 for the pair and they had to go as a pair-the store wouldn't split them.

I've never seen them for sale in the UK before this. They may very occasionally come up at the main expo we have otherwise it's a trip to Europe to source them.

I think you'll really like them. My male is far more active than my carpets and spends equal time perching as he does on the ground. And he eats like a pig! I'm excited to have another olive keeper among us. :)

Ya I've been drooling over Ziggy's olive every since I saw it... Just another snake for the ever growing wish list... I need to hit the lottery...

Maybe, but not that I specifically remember. I haven't been inside the houten expo in years tbh. :D 2 purchases there but both picked up at the door. They had them in Hamm, was atleast 7 years ago but I came for other things :)

Beautiful additions, I really like the uniform colouration of them. Keep us updated on these. Never seen one in person but couldn't house a giant like that.

Can't be helped I'm afraid. Honestly with these, the scrubs and the Madu retic together with what I've already got I do think that's it for now - at least snake wise. Yes I'd love move but each set up costs me at least £250 just in electronics and I want to do each snake justice so big vivs.

Added to the fact I want to be sure even if I have say a job crisis I can still afford to feed everything.

And honestly there's not much that can top what I've got. Fill out the collection sure but stuff I really want?

Oh I will. Yeah feeding response will be interesting. Will be a contest between them and the scrubs as to who takes my hand off first!

Well safe to say there's nothing wrong with the feeding response on these guys! The girl is a little more timid and was more interested in trying to make me go away at first however the male was in there without hesitation.

Always good to get the first meal down!

Awesome snakes Danny. Congrats. I have a pair from Jeff Hartwig. They are hands down my favorite snakes. Gentle giants and super smart. If I could only have one snake it would be an olive.

I've spoken to a few people who have owned or still own them and not one person has a bad word for them.

I think you'll agree that pictures just don't do them justice either. Such subtle beauty that's quite a surprise when you first see them in the flesh given they're essentially just green on the top and creamy white underneath.

I find it best to photograph them outside in natural light. They get that green/purple hue with the rainbow iridescence.

@ Danny- Congrats on the successful first feeding. As I've said before I've never kept such a food driven snake.
@TTR1- How old and how large are your Olive pair? My male came from Jeff Hartwig as well. He produces some great animals.

Finally got the first Viv done. Looking at photos of olivaceus in the wild they seem to be found on sandy soil in rocky environments. From what I've read the shelter in crevices and burrows so I have tried to replicate this.

They do like to climb also hence the branch even though aesthetically this doesn't quite work for me.

The stone is real from the local wood and the burrow is made using excavator clay just in that part of the Viv.

And as of to prove the point about hiding in rocky crevices...

http://www.dannybower.co.uk/photos/Ohiding.jpg

Heat is a 150W che and lighting is an under kitchen cabinet florescent tube unit and a 15W 10% UV tube - currently without a reflector but i will be getting one.

Popeye (male obvs!) Is settling in well and currently just wants me dead!

Will do Olive Oil's over the coming days...

He was fine in his quarantine tub but now he strikes the glass if I go within so much of 3' of the Viv! Once he's out he's fine.

The girl is still in her quarantine tub and she's always tried to kill me! Again once she's out she's as calm as anything.

The substrate is pretty much a straight 50/50 mix of play sand sand top and top soil. Just guessed really but it's turned out exactly as I wanted. It's on a thin layer of hydro balls as well for drainage.

I may as some arid grasses in due course.

Cheers TB. They're fabulous snakes to own so far - really enjoying them.

Nice one Danny! Seems like only a year ago mine was that size. The male did the same thing and still does to a point. The female is a big baby. The female does tail wag though. Which I had never witnessed in an Olive before.

I'm confident they'll chill out with age. I've spoken with a number of keepers and have only heard of rare occasions where an adult has been defensive. Not a reason not to be cautious though.

The scrubs on the other hand... Not so sure! I'll have to find a video a friend sent me of his upset scrub - they strike incredible distances.

dannybgoode

The female olivaceus in her new Viv. There's a marked difference in their dawn behaviour at least. The male is always in his hide at the cool end before the lights come on in the morning however the female is out roaming already.

She was also more defensive in her tub whereas the male was very relaxed but now there in the vivs she, whilst still defensive, has relaxed a bit whereas the male just wants me dead.

They are rapidly becoming a favourite and I know I shouldn't have favoured snakes but these guys are just such awesome snakes!

Our Olives are on the same page Danny. My male hatched 7/1/16 so he's 13 months now. I got him on 1/4/17. He's looks about the same size as your female too. Almost 4ft and about 800g. What are you feeding those beasts? It's funny that your girl is still a bit bitey. My guy tagged me once when I first got him but not a nip since. You never fully trust them though. :)

Still haven't weighed mine. I think mine are a little under 4' - probably closer to 3 1/2'.

I've just moved them to go 2 rat fluffs every 7-10 days with a view to pushing them to weaners before the end of the year..

And she's more than bitey at times - she can be positively pyschotic :). Lovely creatures though.
