View Full Version : Stackable enclosures

I've been looking (not a lot at the moment) at stackable reptile enclosures but of the limited space I have I would love to have something nice to house my two (maybe a third) critters in the same area. However, everything I am finding seems like it would be a lot of money to drop down.

Is there a way to do it without breaking the bank? I was hoping for something other than tubs, since I'd like it to be the main display in my living room.

Oh and tank sizes would be roughly about 20 gallon long each. Or two 20longs with a space up top for two tens. Not that I need more reptiles, it's just a thought

You best bet would be to make your own using the HDPVC sheets found at the big box stores. With a router, a circular saw, and an electric drill you could probably build one or possible two sets of enclosures each with 3 or 4 stacked high in a weekend. Just a thought...

Aaaaah I thought that's what it would come down to :\ Seeing as I have no tools and no space for tools, that might be an option when I can have someone build it for me. It's not dire that I have this, I would just love not to have enclosures scattered all over the place in my tiny one bedroom.

Can always try to find some nice shelving units and tanks that fit into them, it's similar enough to stacking but you can use cheaper tanks and shelving units don't have to cost much. Think that might be the most cost effective method though not necessarily the prettiest.

But it can be! It looks organised which has its own charm but.. Friend of mine has some heavy industrial iron shelving units with wooden tanks in it, looks really cool. He bought the shelving rack used pretty cheap, they look very used but that was the plan. Only problem was hauling the dismantled (but still heavy!!) thing up 5 stairs. The material his tanks are made from is basically crating material, he finished them quite rough with big visible screws etc. Which is not only cost effective but adds to the whole look of it.. Don't think I have a picture of that.. Think the idea is clear though.

Depending on where you live, you can often find cheap or even free stuff on Craig's list that can work such as the shelving units mentioned by Tsubaki. Keep an eye out and you'd be amazed what people give away when they're moving and don't want to mess around selling stuff they can't move. Just a thought...

I'd keep an eye on classifieds, often people are selling used PVC cages.

An Animal Plastics T8 with a divider is very reasonably priced. It may also meet your criteria.

Hey Magdalen... Where in California are you? I have a guy who is going to build my cage and his prices are quite reasonable... He is in Rio Linda, outside of Sacramento... If he is to far away a good cabinet maker in your area could build you the same thing... I'm no expert at this but I having mine built out of white melamine... Check him out... https://www.facebook.com/CustomReptileHomes/

Thanks for the ideas everyone :)

Sattva, I was hoping you'd chime in because I am also in Sacramento and I thought I heard you mention something about custom tanks.

He has a few things on craigslist in our area, but I'm pretty sure he'll make you a good deal...

Thanks that give me a lot to go with :) Luckily my little guy is tiny right now so I have a bit before he gets something bigger. Buuuuut it would be nice to have space for a third animal.

That's down in Anaheim... About a 450 mile drive one way...
But he has some nice stuff! I particularly like the one with the meditating man in a cage...

Hahaha no problem Skipper :) But yeah that's at least an 8 hour drive (if not more) one way. Ugh I've been doing enough driving between my sisters that I don't want to add that trip haha. But wow that cage!

Whoa and I just saw his delivery charges o_o Insane for me anyway.
