hey,
i new to chameleons but i heard that you can tell if it is a male/female by looking for a "spur"...can anyone elaborate on this or show a picture or something? i dont have the chameleon yet so it is dificult for me to understand what im looking for.

one more question...completely unrelated. What kind of plants do you use in your veiled setups?
thanks
pete

I'm pretty sure you look on the back legs at the back of the ankles... It almost looks like an extra toe, I guess lol

Hey Pete!

Excellent question! You can sex the Veiled Chameleons by the presence or absence of the Tarsal Spur on their back feet. The males have it and the females don't. Not all species of chams can be sexed this way though.

Here is a link to show the spurs to help you out: http://www.adcham.com/html/husbandry/glossary/tarsalspur.html

As for plants... I use mainly Pothos in my cages. It grows like a bad weed and can tolerate the heavy misting that I do daily. It's also non-toxic.

Here is a link for edible plants that you can use in a cham enclosure: http://www.anapsid.org/resources/edible.html

Hope this helps!

Cheers!
