View Full Version : Should George {my retic} skip a meal?

George hasn't had a good poo since 12/30... Last Sunday George ate his meal and curled up in his cold hide and hasn't come out... This is uncharacteristic for George... I pulled him out last night to make sure he was ok... I held him until he was warm and put him back and he went right back to his cold hide... He's supposed to eat tonight and has only a little white spots of poo now and then... Should he may be skip a meal? Would he still eat if he was stopped up? Do retics go into brumation?

If your temps and humidity are dialed in he's probably ok Satt. Is it possible he's getting ready to shed? Did he have any hard spots near his vent when you checked him out? Sometimes a soak in a warm tub will get things moving. If you're concerned just keep an eye on him for a few days before offering his normal meal. Keep us posted.

I already started thawing out his meal... You might be right... His last shed was 12/12... Although George has never turned down a meal, even when he was in blue... He's hard to tell when he's getting ready to shed... His eye's are orange and don't change much when he's in blue... In fact, if I remember right I am always surprised when he sheds... I'm old, and my memory is not so good... We'll see! Thanks...

One of my retics always stays on the cold side after I feed him. I have another boa that sometimes gets constipated for unknown reasons, so I soak him in some warm water, and he invariably explodes all over the bathtub. Always seems quite happy with himself after he makes a huge mess too.

If your retic has plenty of water and such, doesn't appear to be dehydrated, it might just be that he's a little constipated. It happens. If you're concerned over time, I would start keeping a chart to document his activities, something simple, like when he poops/urates, when he eats, when he sheds, unusual behaviours, etc. My memory is shot from an autoimmune disease, and my husband has a traumatic brain injury; we would burn the house down if we were left to our own memories. So we keep simple charts for all of our babies to keep them current on stuff.

Ya he wouldn't eat... That's a first for George... I think you might be right he does look a little dull... That's the only way I can tell with him... It's like his colors become more vivid after his shed...

I'm sure he'll deliver that package you're looking for when he sheds :). Make sure you share pics of him in his new suit. ;)

Well he shed 3 days ago, ate two days ago, and still no poo! I have to assume one of two scenarios...
#1. He is assimilating all of the rat or!
#2. He pooped, I cleaned it up and forgot to write it down...
He doesn't look or act backed up... I don't know?
