... And a stupid question. It's been a few years since I had sand boas or looked up anything about them, so I am woefully uneducated on their genetics. A local guy was selling this pair for a great price, so I thought I'd try them again, kind of regret selling my last Sand boa.

First one is an Anery, supposed to be het albino female, produced by a localish individual. And the other is supposed to be an Albino het Anery male, produced by a bigger name breeder.
The stupid question relates to the male. He has black pupils but is definitely not a normal. Is there such a thing as a hypo Sand boa? Or are the "albino" Sand boas something different than an amelanistic? What is he?

The Anery. They don't have names yet.

And then the other one. The pictures washed him out a fair bit, he's a lot more orange IRL.

The male is definitely albino and the female anery, no doubt there. The black pupil isn't black because there is pigment there... pupil is a hole, so regardless of morph, it will always be black

edit: if insufficient light is entering the pupil - Sand Boa's can control their pupil's size, a lot of snakes can't. In bright light those snakes are practically blind and their eyes look "see through" or "glassy" in their albino morphs. Also some snakes have a black iris and retina. When in their albino morph the pigment is removed there and a lot of light is permitted into the eyes making them red-ish as the light bounces back out due to all the blood vessels.

Cheers

Huh that's interesting. Thanks for the confirmation on I.D!

I'm used to snakes with obviously amel eyes I guess, like these.

My girlfriend would die for your albino sand boa there though, she's been looking for one for a while now but they are hard to come by over here (Hungary). All kind of color morphs available, but albino isn't one of them.

And yes snakes with larger eyes and/or large pupils will obviously reflect a lot more light back out and that will really show that red glow. I have an albino Nelson milk snake and it looks like she doesn't have eyes at all but just 2 glass balls. So weird to see. I guess she's completely blind due to it though... Not that milksnake vision is good in the first place.

Really like those sand boa's, weird snakes, it's like their evolution just stopped at one point or something.
