The planning for this arrival has been in the works for a few days now and have had such mixed emotions about it. We were approached by someone offering a baby Retic in exchange for 6 of our BP's. We debated on this back and forth pretty heavily as to obviously having special attachments with all of them. Had been talking about thinning out the herd for a while to focus our time, energy, and resources on solely a couple big guys Would never attempt our first Retic on top of so many other critters. We were also VERY upfront about the recent mite issue so that that this gentleman could be extra observant and take proper precautions. He has apparently been in the business for quite a while so he had a game plan already in place thankfully. But anyways, it's been very bittersweet. I feel we've gained a lot with our new guy but it's a bummer to look around and see so many empty setups. Will definitely be posting pictures in a few days due to him having some severe shed issues right now. Working on getting him prettied up. I'd definitely appreciate some feedback on exactly what he may be (I can't necessarily tell), we were told tiger het albino. I couldn't wait to share the news with everyone as the giants are thankfully so supported here!

It was extremely difficult.. if I didn't know they were going to an experienced keeper I absolutely couldn't have done it when it came down to it. And thank you!

Without pictures I'm just going to say there's no reason to doubt what it was sold to you as if the previous owner was experienced.

I also would have a hard time giving up that many of my animals, I like too many of them. lol

Hopefully we'll have some pics of the new one soon. :D

Congrats on the retic.

I am not against trades by any means, but 6 BPs for 1 reric sounds a bit one sided. Looking at the value of the animals, you may have gotten the short stick on that one. Pretty much all of my BPs are worth 1 baby retic. I know that because I recently got a retic (an SD tiger at that) and he cost the same (if not a little less) than my banana mojave male BP.

I mean...if it was 6 normal balls, maybe...but still. I just hate to see someone get screwed.

Depends a lot on the morph. A normal baby SD here sells for $300 but a purple albino is $1000-1300

+1...that and some ball pythons are worth less than corn snakes with our market.

I'd swap 10 royals/balls for one normal retic, but I'm biased as I'm really not into royals myself..... Monetary value aside, if your happy with the swap then that's all that matters. It doesn't sound great that he's having major shed issues on his arrival with you tho, hopefully it's just the stress of the move!

Would a lavender albino tiger be about the same then as a purple albino? I bought my baby girl for about $250. She's the lavender albino tiger. We're hoping to breed her with our tiger retic when they're both old enough, but she's not a purple albino

That I don't know, I'm only going off what a Canadian retic breeder is selling his for. Prices up here are different then south of the border. A 68.75% tiger het purple is $400

No, she's a lavender albino tiger. I don't know what she's het for. She's a pretty girl, but we didn't spend the $1000 price tag for her; she was originally priced at $500.

I'm asking about the tiger, not the lavender.. Quite obvious a Lavender won't be het for albino, being albino already.

HAHAH! I feel so stupid now. I don't know what Tigger the tiger is het for. We don't know much about his lineage.

Thank you! (: In our area just a normal Retic is going to average the 400 range. And there's obviously a huge market for BP's but even the 2 morphs we had were inexpensive to come by. Each of their perspective retail value (I hate to use the term retail value on animal) came a little under the 400 mark.

He did have a long travel journey yesterday so he welcomed his soak (thankfully) lol. Great temperament so far. He's been wanting to explore his enclosure and hasn't hid away so I'll take that as a good sign

My albino retic has had shedding issues since day 1 of bringing her home. I often wondered if this is common for this type of morph, and asked around. It seems pretty common that albinos have weird sheds. It doesn't bother her much; she gets a bath around shedding time now like clockwork and can do a full shed with help. My other retic has no issues at all; will full body shed with no help, in his hide, overnight.
