Long story short, a friend of mine got a adult Selayar male from me to breed.. Sold him back to me after a bit before ever breeding, because he had to downsize (new baby). Found out last week he is quitting the giants all together, so I saw my chance and snatched up the Selayar female!! She is a 11,5ft, 5 year old female. So far she seems defensive in the terrarium, fairly easy to handle outside of it. Still have to get to know her off course, her name is Misa!

She looked a little rough.. Usually I don't give new arrivals a new snakes a bath day 1, but she had 2/3rd of a few days old shed stuck.. Potentially slightly stressful bath seemed like a better idea than risk other problems.

It had to soak for a while! The shed had been on there for a few days, all dried up and stuck.. But the change was worth the effort!

All clean!

Still pretty friendly even after a lot of touching and gentle rubbing.

This shows her size/colour a bit better, nice and shiny.

Pictures aren't the best, but it gives a pretty good idea!
It would almost be a crime not breeding this pair, wouldn't it? :D She looks a lot like my handsome boy.

I hope so David! I don't think anyone else in Europe is currently breeding them, the female was from the last clutch of Selayars filaretic bred years ago. I haven't seen babies around in years, maybe I just missed them though. :) thanks!

Thanks Scott :D

She's a beautiful girl. I think you did the right thing by soaking and getting that shed off her. Nice before and after changed. Hope you have great luck with her.

Thank you! She seemed a lot more relaxed without the shed stuck all over her, must have been annoying.

Thanks! :D She is a heartbreaker, I could see my friends heart breaking when I took her with me. I'm sure he's glad I'm the one taking her, but still real sad to see her go. (I don't think the quitting giants was his discision as much as his wifes)

Oh my goodness she's gorgeous, and you definitely need your security system updated. And Martin,s wrong, I'll be outside your door with 2 snake bags ;). After all it would be a shame to not take the pair :D. All joking aside though, I think your the only person I know of with a pair of pure Selayar retics :Wow:

Oooh my, I'll be on the lookout for you with 2 large bags then!... :D.. Thank you! She is gorgeous indeed, I just checked her thermostat and had to resist gluing my face to the glass to look at her (Like I do with my other snakes, I have to clean a lot of faceprints of the glass) Haven't seen anyone breeding Selayars in AGES (or any other pure localities, saw some Balis 2 years ago), I bred a few but those seem to have vanished into thin air. I think people used them so much to enhance yellow based morphs, that the pure ones are just nowhere to be found any more. Which is a shame because they are awesome.. Makes me miss my other pure location forms as well, Selayars always were my favourites (together with Sulawesi).. My morphs are gorgeous absolutely, but nothing beats a nice normal. A friend of mine has a beautiful Seram island male but has never been able to find a female!

That's how I ended up with my first snake. It was my son's science teacher's snake. He kept the snakes exclusively at school, because his wife wouldn't let them in the house. So over the summer, we babysat Fang, and ended up keeping him as our own. When we did the official hand off, Fang was wrapped around my neck, and you could see tears welling up in the teacher's eyes. Every so often, when the weather is nice out, he will ride with us to pick up the kids, with the teacher standing outside. When he notices Fang, he has a sad look on his face.

So glad you're the one taking over. At least your friend knows she's going to be in good hands and will be loved for years to come.

Nice addition! Unfortunately, stuck sheds seem to be disproportionately common in retics, even amongst regular reptile keepers. I think a lot of people underestimate their humidity needs.

Give her a few more shed cycles with some nice high humidity and she'll look like a brand new snake. :D

Thanks bsg! :D Don't really have issues with my retics shedding, I just add moss to the enclosure and the shedding goes without issues. Kira is the only one who never really gives me whole sheds, he does shed fully cleanly in 1 go but he sheds quite often and the sheds are very flimsy/thin. Bit of a shame.. I like to keep the bigger sheds as decoration.

I meant more of the previous owner's care since she came to you with stuck shed, and trends I notice in general. ;) I know you do well with your humidity. :)

River does sometimes give me whole sheds but now that she's bigger it's difficult to get to it before she shreds it up frantically crawling over it. >.> It's too bad she doesn't ball it up so it's out of the way. haha

It really is getting hard to try and find pure locals, just before I got Jenny there was a pure Sumatrain came into the shop. And I was smitten with her, so much that I almost ended up getting her instead. There was a guy on Facebook with a Bali and a few other pure localities but I can't remember his name. But I know if you get a clutch from your pair, you'll have people kicking your door down for babies :D

I don't know about that haha! Retics arent easy to sell around here. Maybe if I'd take them to an expo. I might breed my boas as well so it's worth my while going to an expo. :D and Sumatrans are gorgeous as well!
