Hey everyone, Im having a hard time finding what kind of soil to use for my ackie monitor. I can't simply use dirt from my yard because I'm unsure if pesticides have ever been used. Would prefer to purchase some kind of safe soil from a hardware store or something. Has any one use any store brand soil with success? Anything from HomeDepot or even on Amazon? Don't mind buying soil thru amazon. Ive been using eco earth for now mixed with sand its ok at first but so hard to keep humidity up and soil dry out so fast

thanks appreciate it!

Yeah i use eco earth as well. Great for humidity at first but after 1 week or 2 its starts to dry out. I just buy a new bag and dumb some into a tub than add some water. Not too much that the whole substrate is soaked. but enough so that it stays humid for longer! But thats what i use.

The sand/soil mix should be around 12" deep, it should stay moist at depth fairly easily. Any less dirt than that and the monitor cannot burrow, and burrows are a mandatory requirement for the species.

Decomposed granite is a good substrate option if it is available in your area.
