Hello forum! My name is Thad and I've recently picked up a salmon boa constrictor. She's been a lovely pet the last couple months I've had her. She's approximately 7 months old and has grown so much since I got her. My interest in snakes is growing and I could see collecting more and getting into breeding.

Unfortunately I noticed mites on her a couple weeks ago and have been working on getting rid of them. She's in a temporary enclosure while I've cleaned her main one out. I've been washing her and rubbing her with snake oil while waiting for her mite spray to arrive. I haven't seen anymore on her since she's been moved to her current enclosure.

Welcome!

I have never heard of dnake oil before. Oil shiuld not be put on a snake as it interferes with their own natural lubrication come shedding time.

Good luck with the mite spray. Just make sure to follow the directions EXACTLY so as not to cause harm to your boa.

Good luck!

The snake oil is from naturezone; consists of grapeseed oil, coconut oil, tea tree oil, wheat germ oil, jojoba oil, grapefruit seed extract. Claims to assist in recovering damage from mites and I have heard it suffocates any mites under the scales.

You think a couple uses would have much impact on the snake and its oils?

Never heard of that. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

Hello and welcome to the forum Thad. A breeder friend of mine just uses Olive Oil, all the oil does is makes it harder for the mites to get a grip. He puts some Olive oil on a piece of kitchen towel starts at the neck and allows the snake to move through the towel and when its done you can see the mites in the towel.
