Hello everyone, I have been a snake lover since i was old enough to read or talk. I was wondering about a pet snake recommendation, ( I have been researching for months and I think I have my mom coaxed into letting one in the house ) And I was wondering if you guys/girls could help me out. I am looking for a snake that:
Does not get older than 20 years, 20+ being a stretch,
Does not get longer than 4-5 feet,
One that you can calmly hang out with and carry around the house,
A species that is active enough to roam around in my room and outside,
And finally something out of the ordinary.
I know corn snakes fit into basically all those categories, except the last one. The snakes I was looking into were basically all of them under $145, but the kinds that actually stuck out were hognose, Brazilian/Columbian rainbow python, mexican black kingsnake, and others but I really need some help on deciding. If you could help me out that would be great.

Before we suggest species why is the lifespan such an issue? All pets are a commitment and most live 10+years.

I thought of that too. I am going to college soon and my mom doesn't really want one in the house for so long. It doesn't really mean anything. Forget about lifespan. I am ready to take on any lifespan, my mom, not so much hahah.

Off the top of my head, look into some of the rat snake species.
I have an Everglades and they are awesome. Can be a bit sketchy sometimes, but mostly really chill.
The pic isn't mine, but same look.

If you're looking for something out of the ordinary, you could still get a corn snake. They come in so many wildly different morphs, and some are so rare they sell for thousands of dollars. I don't know if you've been here (http://iansvivarium.com/morphs/?sid=51e6e2e3a13bb71e80572c99a2973690) yet, but if not, it's worth a look. Some of the really stunning morphs are also really affordable (<145 for sure).

My older sister has a Mexican black kingsnake, they are really cool and active. He at least isn't super runny or skittish, will stay calmly on the floor, or explore your arms. BUT he is VERY food aggressive. Will attack the glass if you're moving too much outside his tank. A year ago he bit my sister and swallowed her entire thumb. Took about 30 minutes to get him to let go, and was very painful (At least my sister says so) Now she never holds him because he seemed to loose his calm/docile nature as he grew.
They're very pretty and cute snakes though, I love em

It's always good to get the snake you really feel that you want to work with. Keeping in mind all your limitations and requirements for the animal.

I really think a corn snake is your best match. You can get some beautiful, exotic color morphs that look anything but ordinary. I have 5 corn snakes and no two of them look anything alike. I have everything from a common corn to a vivid red, orange and yellow striped guy to a pure white snake and one that will look like he was dipped in gold when he is mature.
Great place to drool over (and buy, if you are so inclined) corn snakes. Don is one of the best in the biz. https://cornsnake.net/index.php?lang=en
