When I first got into snakes 6 months ago I didn't like ball pythons... Their heads always looked to small for their bodys to me... There was already 15 snakes I wanted so another field of snakes I really didn't need anyhow... I thought how boring! a snake with a small head that rolls up into a ball when you hold it... I was wrong! I got Crystal my BEL because I really wanted a snake with blue eyes and she was the cheapest BEL I could fine at the time... Now I wasn't planning breeding her but when Leon {Who carries the BEL gene} showed up on craigslist for only $75'oo I couldn't resist... I have to say I am in love with Balls also now... The problem now is there is 150 snakes I want now...

Haha! I was VERY much the same! Balls still aren't my 'favorite' species, but one of my favorite snakes happens to be a BP lol. I went from wanting none, to now having 3 with plans on breeding in the future. Will keep babies if they turn out BEL or a banana jigsaw. =)

Of course I also want soooo many more of different species. Don't forget the lizards and now turtles as well lol. It's a rediculous addiction for sure!

I'm was try to keep it to just snakes because the feeding regimen is simple... But I have had a hankering for a Blue-tongued skink...

Blue tongues are great. Even temperament and pretty straight forward to care for. Great choice for a lizard.

Like you I'm more drawn to snakes, not necessarily for the feeding regime (although that is a bonus) I just find them more interesting. That said I've got the T lepidus and he's brilliant and I am getting a cave gecko (Goniurosaurus kuroiwae) but that'll be it I think unless I get house some kind of monitor properly.

BPs are like a drug and you can why there is so many morphs it's just ridiculous :D and blue tongue skins are beautiful lizards to work with, I know people say they can be nippy but the few I've worked with have been very easy to handle. But then again this has only been around 5 animals for a few weeks at a time so I'm no expert :)

Couldn't agree more. I only wanted 1 and that was my banana, within 6 weeks I had another 4 - BEL, Pied, Lesser and a Spider - lol. I am now waiting for my 2nd boa which will be with me on Monday 28th November, can't wait and thats it....NO MORE!

We'll see :D. We've stuck to our rule of no more for over 3 years now although we've housed the odd corn or king snake for a short while before its been picked up. I've been at my mates house a few times in the past few months watching him work with his hots some of which I'm dieing to get my license and keep but for medical reasons I'm afraid it's never gonna happen now

I did look at a DWA (Dangerous Wild Animal) License a while back as I would love to work with any Dendroaspis or Bitis, but I wouldn't even consider it until I had researched it for about 6 months or longer.

It was hard enough to get a licence in N.Ireland but now the process is ridiculous. I know the council would give me a licence but I know in my own heart I'm not safe to work with them, which is a pity as I was just starting to not running away every time a viv was opened and actually learning to be of some use around them :D

I'm very happy i can keep it to snakes, I'd love a white throated monitor but i simply have no room for one.(or i stubbornly keep repeating that to myself, whatever works!)

After reading all I could about what snakes to get, I too had a prejudice against ball pythons. My interest in the piebald animals finally got the best of me and I purchased my first one. After my seventh ball python I would have to say that they are by far my favorite to interact with in my collection. Their calming slow demeanor is a great to help me relax.

My first snake was a regular male BP. its what got me into snakes. my second snake however was a central american boa female. I fell in love with how active and curious the boa was in comparison to my BP. since then ive bought 3 more boa's and i dont think ill be buying another BP. I just prefer the size and attitude of boas and i find my BP to be a bit of a bore in comparison. Dont get me wrong, i like them and the variety of morphs, as well as their cheap prices, and sometimes its nice to have a calmer snake to handle, but in general they are not my favorite. there are many other pythons i plan on owning in the future and BP's are not one of them.

We own two burms one retic and a wild type male BP whose a complete pain in the butt a mouse eater who goes on hunger strike at the drop of a hat for no reason we've had him 11+ years a real wee character wouldn't be without him :)
