Hey guys, I need a new Python. I just got rid of my Leo Gecko and my parents said I could fill the tank. I'm not sure what I want but I'm very interested in Pythons. I've been looking at Childrens Pythons but I don't like the price. Most care sheets say they go for 2-300. Thats a LOT of money. My limit is approx 100 dollars. (I dont like to spend much on snakes cuz generally the more expensive ones are harder to keep) Any suggestions? I don't want a giant snake either. 6-7' is limit! Thanks guys
i would suggest a corn snake...does it have to be a python?
just curious, are you filling the same tank you had your leo in?
cause im not sure you can fit a 6-7 foot python in a tank you were keeping a leopard in...unless it was a MASSIVE tank.
if you have enough room, why not try a ball python...you probably wont find too many other pythons for $100 or less
hope that helped
good luck

Well, Im selling the leo's tank as well as him. And not a corn snake. I really dont like Colubrids. What about a boa? I've been looking at rosy's too. And I already have 2 BPs. Sabbra n Hydra. Awesome snakes.
Spotted pythons are more affordable.
Don't say you hate colubrids! Have you even owned one?

Naw but I have friends that do..They're nothing compared to a Python other than a bug eyed thing. All the one's I've handled have "went" on me or just gone insane. I like the Pythons cuz they're pretty calm. How much do spotted pythons run?
I bet to diff, pythons have nothing on colubrids when it comes to colour and diversity.
All our insane snakes are pythons. It's the colubrids that are handable.
Spotteds run from $80 to $100 as babies, and then prices go up from there. Canadian dollars. I've seen spotteds in the states for like $40US.

Why not a ball python?
They run from $10+ (if you go to a reptile show, I've seen them for $10 as hatchlings), and only get 3-5feet.

i would reccomend a ball python...some stores sell them over 100$ but im sure you can find some at a lower price. Im with you on the colubrid thing..they have amazing colours but they are too fast for me! lol.. but i will own one sooner or later because they are just too beautiful. I own 2 columbian boas and they are pretty calm. I handled a lot of ball pythons and they are the most calm snake ive handled.

You are in for a real suprise if you think all pythons are going to be calm. *lol* Babys can and WILL bite and some also crap on you. Its not just colubrids. And no python can live in a ten gallon tank for long. Tanks aren't really that good for humidity and ventilation purposes.
What about Rosy Boas?

Take a look at an Irian Jaya or Jungle Carpet Python? I dont know if your talking about $100 CD but you can find them for under $100 USD.
I loved my pythons and boas, but I would say that my heart for my favorite pet that I have right now is Sammy the Normal Corn snake. He is huge for a corn, about 6' and as lovable as they come, when I open the cage he almost jumps in my hands.!
He loves to be help and has never ever musted or bit!
Colubrids make great pets!

If it doesn't have to be a python a Dumerils Boa might be good.

I think childrens pythons look alot like corns/kings/rats the body shape is simular but the pattern is differnt and the way i see it with temperment is its individual and is the snake bits you and pees on you when its young at least you can say you "tamed it"
when its older

i would say a childresn too, they are nice snakes. And for the thing about colubrids and pythons, i think they are both equal. There is no sure thing of a calm python or a calm colubrid, heck any snake. But I have seen tons of calm colubrids and they're great.
