View Full Version : Photos???
I use to be able to post pictures... Nothing on my end has changed so I thought maybe I'm missing something here! when I go to choose a file in Manage Attachments, I get "bytes exceeds the forum's limit of 24.4 KB for this filetype." which I had never seen before... Is this something new? and how do I fix it?

resize the photo by cropping it, cutting out edges and stuff. should fit afterwards

Same thing has happened to me, I even checked with pictures that I previously uploaded and they're now too big haha and cropping had no affect

Do you guys use Photobucket?
They've been having sporadic problems for the last week or so.

It's the issue of uploading directly to the site, not a link.

Hmmm 24.4 KB for a photo is really small size (even for a forum) and a little hard to get without the quality looking terrible. Aside from cropping you can try playing with the dpi/ppi. Would have to be 72dpi to work, maybe. Even still you'll end up with an image that'll be small.

Yep! I have had the exact same problem trying to upload pics directly to the site. Tells me my file size is too large? ??? Never had a problem before..
Ok, I had a look, and it seems that the size allowed changed. Which should not happen. I have increased the size, but I can not seem to remember what the size used to be. Could everyone please try to upload the photos again and let me know if the problem still exists. Thanks.

I just tried and this came up...
Your file of 2.58 MB bytes exceeds the forum's limit of 250.0 KB for this filetype.
I can post in the gallery?
Ahhh... that is why my camera pics wouldn't upload directly and I had to photobucket one post. I generally use photobucket anyway but they've put limits on the space for free accounts now which my current account is about to exceed and I didn't have the post count for awhile.
You guys still working on this?
You guys still working on this?
Still am. I have updated it to allow up to 5 mb photo, but the question I have to ask is what would be a reasonable size to allow? Any thoughts?

5mb imo should be plenty for jpeg. Don't want to cripple the storage limits by allowing more than that.
As the photos are resized by the forum software is also just a waste to allow massive files which are then just shrunk down for viewing.

Well that's huge at (2.58 MB) I don't know how to resize; I might have to have my granddaughter show me, but like I said I was posting fine before and nothing on my end has changed....

Are you guy's still working on the picture size thing?
Seconded. It's a pain when viewing on a mobile.
Seems that the photos no longer scale if uploaded directly to the site.

Yes, we are aware of it and trying to fix it. Sorry for the delay!
It is on the list. As the mod we were using is no longer supported, we have to find and test one that is supported. It is just taking longer then I had hoped. It will be fixed.

Can you please upload the same photo again. I need to see if it is resized on the fly now.
Jason
I tried and got this!
20161103_184455_001.jpg:
The Dimension limits for this filetype are 640 x 480. We were unable to resize your file so you will need to do so manually and upload it again. Your file is currently 5312 x 2988.

That's what I kept getting too had to do it my laptop over the weekend and downsize it enough for it to upload, never used to have a problem
While I am not sure where the issue is, it is better that they be smaller then the 5 MB photos we had. They tend to fill up storage fast. I will keep digging thought, and plan to upgrade the software over Christmas as I have a couple days off.

Have you tried using Paint to resize your photos? if you go into your files and find the picture you want to resize, Right click, and then select Open in Paint. You can then use the resize tool (I'd suggest changing the 100s to 25s) to make you file small enough to upload. Then save it and it should work when you try to post.
I might have found the problem but will have to try it out over the weekend. Thanks for your patience.
