Tsubakis Giants, an update topic.

Since I take a lot of random phone pics that never really make it onto the forum because they're just single snapshots.. I will be posting pictures in this topic regularly. :D I'll have one for my boas and one for my pythons, bit easier that way.

To start off with, I think this is the last picture I took of my pretty girl.. I miss her quirks, even miss her trying to bite my face off while peeing on me.. This will likely be the last picture i post of her as well, she should be first in this.

Kira (Selayar retic) looks Nothing like himself when he's in shed! :Wow: He loves to soak when in shed so he gets a big pool to do so. The container he takes his baths in are the same size as the tubs my smaller boas live in haha.

Little Hiro (SD Genetic Stripe) has grown as expected! Hard to call him a giant, being this size at 2 years old, :D


Just to give you an idea of how much (Or little! depends on how you look at it) he has grown in the past 15 months. On this picture he is 8 months old.

Loki (Labyrinth het albino) is becoming a serious snake as well, he is actually catching up very rapidly and gained a whole lot of weight lately. All of his issues have vanished, he is no longer shy at all.. He ate his first rabbit last week! He is still incredibly hissy but not aggressive. Such a handsome boy!

Zuko (purple retic) is doing great as always, always eats never causes any trouble :D besides peeing on one of my favourite blankets... Think he started another growth spurt since he's been fed on rabbits only!

Lyra (?? SD) is doing great too, she is incredibly laid back. So hard to believe i only got her because she was very aggressive to her previous owners.

I bought Hiro as a SD, so far his genetics seem to hold up nicely. :D he is about 4ft now I think, if he even makes that.. Not sure though, never measured him!

Xena passed away sadly, sorry I'm going to keep a long story short I don't really deal well with it.. I suspected something was up because it took her very long to get food down, called in help to check her out (Since she was pushing 15ft) found a weird lump.. Made a vet appointment, ended up taking her in early because she was acting very strangely.. What I felt was a tumour, I did catch it fairly early but it was not the only one she had. Chances of removal and recovering were slim at best, didn't want to put her through it.

Zuko enjoyed his bunny a lot and then proceeded to make a mess of his tub.. So frustrating I can't clean it right now haha. I don't know what happened to the white balance on this picture (flash photo through the glass at night), but it's the idea that counts :D

I'm so happy Loki doesn't give me any issues any more, his eyes look great he's inquisitive, eats great and begs for more! I do still have to heat it up for his highness on occasion.. He will eat it cold 3 /4 times in a row, and then ignore cold food.. weirdo.. :D Here's a picture of him with his food last night.. And one checking for more food this morning!

Lyra has been a perfect snake so far, never refuses food, no aggression to me whatsoever (just the food craze) The only issue she has is that her tail tip is bent and I need to pull the last bit of shed of it manually. Feeding her is fun! She requires a little dexterity to feed frozen thawed, she does not really automatically constrict cold food.. When there is food in the vicinity she just flies around with her mouth open.. The trick is getting her to actually grab the food and not your limbs! Then wiggle and wrestle it until she starts to constrict, otherwise she lets go and goes for your nice warm hands trying to close the tub....! A friend of mine was over the other day and he said he would've sworn she was a Platinum super-dwarf. What do you guys think?

Yeah, it's sad but that's life I guess. And can't prove that Lyra is platinum without breeding her, but she sure is pretty :D

Poor Xena, but I agree that was probably the best decision. Tumors are not easy to get rid of. At least Loki's issues are gone and everyone appears to be healthy.

Beautiful animals tsubaki! I would expect nothing less from you! I would say no in regards to Lyra being Platinum. Her colors are a little more toned down than that. To me she's a dead ringer for the sun fire gene. Regardless she's a stunning girl. I'm truly sorry about Xena. I'm dealing with this myself. I hope you are doing well.

Thanks Jellybean. Just imagen a rediculous amount of pee, and you're close. Just like poops, their pee seems out of proportion to their size. A 15ft retic or so tales small pony sized dumps.. :D

Small update on my giants, most of them are doing great. Kira (Seleyar) is doing great as always, Hiro (Gen stripe SD) is too, and Loki (Labyrinth Burm) is finally eating rabbits and growing like a true giant! Zuko is also without issues, here's a picture of him, he shed about a day later :D

Lyra had her eyes looking swollen and dry after going into shed, she always looked a little bug eyed but I thought that was just her headshape. Turns out it is not, there was filth underneath her eyelids. Took her to the vet and she thinks it might have been from prolonged dryness by the last owner (When i just had her, her eyes and skin were dry, she had stuck eyecaps on her eyes which were also dented). Rinsed them a few times and kept them clean, they look better now after a shed, think she'll be fine. She also doesn't look bug eyed any more! Never seen anything like this before.

Bad picture, she was cranky, did not want to eat for about 2 weeks either.

They are indeed! I can't even find dreamlike Burmese any more, the breeder you found for me before. Found a page called Boas and Burms but doesn't seem to be the same.. Found a website but it's empty... Found one breeder that has 'coming soon' on his website speaking of hypo labyrinths but that's it, can't find much.. If i found a female, I might consider actually making room for her one way or another.. This morphs should be more available!

They no longer come near me though, closest they come is an expo 11hours (one way) drive away..Bit they currently only have 1 male for sale so no use to me anyway. A update on all of them, been a while!

Kira is doing amazing as always, getting ready to shed but always shiny. And also friendly as ever, funny thing.. My friend told me Freek Vonk would have wanted him, he is calm enough that he was interested in using him for educational purposes. Not for sale though! This guy is so much fun to own, think if I had to pick a favourite it would be him. A close call but still! There's just something about this boy.. Can't believe it's almost been 9 years since I saw him crawl out of his egg.

Just a distant flash phone pic of Misa through the glass, she is still settling in. Besides being a bit more active/defensive her behaviour is extremely similar to Kira. And they look alike enough that my friends can't tell the difference haha. (Besides Kira being bigger) Still incredibly excited to have her here!

Lyra seems to be 100% now, no more issues. Took a while but she is growing like a weed! She is the fastest growing snake I have at the moment, she grew a foot in 4 months and is becoming very girth. So a lovely spurt for a superdwarf! Overall she is a great snake, really pretty looking and very calm too.

Hiro is doing great as well, he is staying even smaller than I expected so far (he's still only about 3,5-4ft). I don't mind either way, he eats fine and seems healthy so all is good. He is still defensive in his tub but easy to handle outside, just a bit flighty.

Zuko is in shed but he is doing great! He's starting to get very pushy which i hope he grows out of, it's quite annoying to try to grab a bucking mainland retic. So since recently I have been sitting next to his tank daily and just touch him and move his body a bit, seems to be working. He isn't aggressive at all so even if he stays pushy it's fine, but since we're unsure how large he is going to be (He's bit of a mix so it's a toss up!) would be nice if he remains on the easy to handle side of the behavioural scale.

Loki had soiled himself, as usual.. He is quite gross and always makes a big mess, took him to the bathroom to rinse off.. He eventually decided climbing the sink looked more fun :D

Thanks both :D And martin, all my recent shots are phone shots. (including everything in this topic) I am waiting for a part for my camera to be able to use it again.. But since my camera body is getting a bit old to get parts for (they don't make them like that anymore haha) it's taking a while..

I can't wait for my retics to get big like yours. When did you start feeding them bunnies? Ours still get small rats, and they are growing like weeds. Wanted to look into a less fatty feed for them, but also don't want them to grow too fast (the female just hit an unexpected growth spurt and has now surpassed the male by a foot).

Thanks :D I don't have a set time of when they get rabbits, depends on what size rabbits are available. If I can get small rabbits, and they can take it. They'll get it :D I have my entire feeding schedule typed out somewhere, I'll try to find it later (at work right now)

I might have shown them in random post somewhere. I take bad pics of them. One is a lavender albino tiger but I can never get her lavendar to show in pics. And the tiger has a rainbow that I can't quite capture either. I'll see what I can dig up or try and take some outside pics.

Zuko made a giant mess and had to come out, snapped this when I had him in a cleaning tub. There's dirt on him too if anyone is wondering what the gritty black stuff on his neck and in his nose is, though it's hard to see in the resized picture.. Not the best picture but I haven't shown him off lately, he's doing good, going through a spurt and shedding a lot, pretty sure he's going into shed again (he wasn't very shiny today, his early blue stages are impossible to see otherwise). I couldn't be happier with my pretty boy, he is slowly stopping to try to body slamming me. Been giving him some daily tlc, it helped. He looks small in my new cleaning tubs, but don't be fooled! that is a really big tub, I think he's around 11ft.. He turns 3 somewhere at the end of this year.. Could look up the exact date but too lazy :D If he keep growing with the spurt he seems to be having now, he will easily surpass Kira in size, XL rabbit are really giving his growth a boost. He might still end up slowing down and staying small, either way I won't be disappointed he's a great snake to own. Can't wait until the weather gets better and I can take him outside for some proper pictures with a DSLR! His colours look so much better in real life.

As long as it's dirt, and not "the mess" :) hehehe. He's beautiful! I cannot wait for my babies to start getting that big. They're long, but they're skinny so they still look like little bitty babies (at least to me). I don't get quite as many screams when we take them for a walk to the park

We live in a neighbourhood with some cops, and they are literally more afraid of snakes than someone holding a weapon. It's funny.

we take them to the park because it has grass, and I think it gives them enrichment. We don't have grass in or around the house, and the park is across the street. They seem to really love being out there, and we live in the desert where it's usually pretty nice outside (around 75-85 F).

I too need to start working with River more, she's taken to sneezing/wheezing loudly at me in protest if I touch her. lol I know it's not RI because I've checked her mouth countless times and she only does it when I'm touching her, the out of breath wheeze she makes is different.

Thx BSG! :D Yeah they're good at being huffy n puffy, he always starts breathing heavily when I pick him up too. I do have some dslr pics of all but my newer snakes, I have 2 sets of dslr's both unusable since a few months.. One with a broken charger plug and one that refuses to write anything to its memory card (and it's internal memory fits -1- .RAW.. so very useful.).. turning it all into one working set when I can be bothered haha :D

My Selayar lady isn't calming down at all... Can't walk past her enclosure without her biting at me, when I open the tank I have to have catlike reflexes to not get bit. It's borderline annoying, because she also loves to topple her waterbowl. :D good thing she's pretty!

Here's my genetic stripe Hiro, who refused to come out to play. He's doing everything he's supposed to, just got a bit shy since he moved into a big enclosure. He retreated into the paper after this picture with an annoyed hiss, so I just let him be. He just needs a bit more time to settle in.

Zuko's doing great! He's getting really big but he's still a gentle giant, bit pushy but that's all. He explores often when I change something in his enclosure, or after I clean it.

And then there's Loki! Who suddenly decided he wants to be an adult! He's 8ft+ and eating large rabbits :D he recently shed and these pictures are quite close to his real colours! He is really growing like a weed at the moment, which is awesome after such a bad start!

Completely forgot to post these, after Misa shed she also defecated and decided to shower herself in poop. So I took her out and gave her a bath, tried to make it a bit of a bonding moment.. It was alright but I don't think we bonded much, she went for my face the second she was back in her enclosure :D

Could avoid the topic for ages, to make it seem less true I guess.. But no point to that, so I just wanted to let you all know Lyra passed away very suddenly. She ate +/- 2 days prior and I checked on her (just like I do with all of them every night) before going to bed, early next morning I found her dead. The vet stated the cause of death was an ruptured aorta, and that she had an usually large heart. Why did she die at a mere 3 years old? I don't know.. Maybe her previous poor care did more internal damage than I thought? No use in pondering, I just hope she went quickly and painlessly. She seemed to have gone while resting, as she was coiled up in her hide as usual just in a bit of a flacid way. Which is why I noticed.

This is everything but a good picture, It's the type of picture I would usually not even bother with and just delete because it's out of focus, dark and not very flattering. But this is the last picture taken of Lyra, the night before she passed she came to the window to see what was up.. And It's a picture of how I'll remember her, inquisitive and friendly miss wonky tail :) always immensely proud looking of how much she messed up her decor every single day. I'm happy to have had her for as long as I did, she was an amazing animal to own and the only rescue to ever win over my heart enough to stay.
