Just some pics of my newest addition, a redcheek scorpion mud turtle. The guy at the store think he may be ab integrade though since his red isn't very bright.
Very small guy though. About 6 inches and seems fully grown, but not sure. Needs a name but for nownjust calling him Muddie Buddy (yup, soooo original lol).

Handsome little guy! Cool setup too. Grats to you.
I'm not much of a turtle guy, but it's got a cool looking face. Kind of reminds me of a grumpy old man of sorts...lol. Good luck with your new semiaquatic friend.

Haha, thanks guys!
I will most likely be getting him one of those Christmas tree tubs come December and a full canister filter to help with the mess as apparently turtles are filthy little beings lol.
And yeah, I am not usually kne for turtles myself, but this one was just too cute and full of personality!

I find mud turtles to be neat because their shape is rather distinctive compared to your typical slider-style turtle. They also stay pretty small so they don't require secure outdoor ponds like most species. And, of course, their food "begging" behavior is rather endearing.
Something that you might want to look into is stock tanks. They're generally an ugly black color but they're designed to hold water, many have a drain in the bottom that is easily plumbed for canister filters, the plastic is tough enough that you can screw things to the top edge, and they generally sell for $0.50 a gallon or less.

I was looking at a 50 gallon stock tank actually. Might be what I do.=)

He is probably one of the cutest turtle faces I have ever seen second to the Mata Mata.

Wow, he is neat! Such a different looking turtle, I've never seen one before.
Good luck with your new muddie buddy.
Very cool, Logan! I know nothing about keeping turtles but I do love em. Nice grab!

Thanks everyone!
I admit, they may be a new 'thing' for me lol. Already looking into getting a 2nd one! Oh lordie lol.
It won't be another mud though. Going to put more thougt into it and plan a really large tank with a nice land set up and possibly add some fish. =)

Looks great! I'm also not a big turtle person but he is interesting. I've thought about a tortoise but every time I look I always think I could fit a lot of snakes in that kind of space...

Haha!
So true! I was thinking tortoise as well at first, however they require daily salads and such. The aquatic turtles I have chosen are still pure carnivores and only eat 3ish times a week and are fed a base of special turtle pellets, but can also eat live foods like fish (if theu can catch it lol) shrimp, even pinky mice.
Also, omg, their personalities! That's what really got me! Adorable begging faces haha!

It would take an outdoor pond area, but look up concentric diamondback terrapins. They're my next turtle purchase.

That is actually my next one too!!!
But it doesn't have to be an outdoor pond. Going with a brackish set up with an expected adult tank of 100 gallons. (The mud will most likely get a 40 breeder since they don't swim much).
I really want to go woth a hatchling for the terrapin though. I love baby reptiles and feel jipped out of that with my already adult mud lol.
Do you have a breeder selected? Ping me with who you will get yours from. I found one guy selling some for like 30$ but he's already sold out.

I've never been into water turtles, but if I were to keep aquatics it would be muds or musks. Very cute little guy!
