Hello, I just moved to an area where there are a lot of snakes and animals. I found this guy on my back door mat. He was trying to attack me as I took these pics. I didn't see a rattle on the tail. It looked like the tail just tapered off but I didn't get a good look. The snake is about 2-3 feet long. Can anyone identify this snake? Thank you.

From the limited view of the pictures I would say Bull snake however it could be a number of species. Where are you located? The region you live in may be helpful in narrowing it down without getting better pictures.

Firstly, looks like he's just coiled up hoping not to be eaten rather than "attacking" anything.

Secondly, I agree with Captain, it looks like it's probably a bull or gopher snake, but hard to tell from the photos and no location known.

My money is on San Diego Gopher Snake (Pituophis catenifer annectens). Location would be helpful. It is definitely a Gopher Snake, it is harmless. They are great snakes to have around, they eat a lot of rodents.
