Today I found my cornsnake with the heat thermometer stuck to his skin. Hi was in so much distress and I can guarantee that he was in pain when I had to take it off. I went to the store where we bought the thermometers and they told us that they are not liable. Can I hold them accountable?
The product has their name and the store manager even said that it commonly happens. It could've killed my snake I feel they should be accountable for something. If anyone knows anything about how liability works with these kinds of things please let me know.

Read the package and see if it says anywhere 'not to be put in enclosure'.

Also, that would be more 'user error' than liability. Liability would be if the them was reading low, causing you to up the heat until your animal received burns.

Unfortunately ignorance doesnt mean anyone is liable. Just use it as a learning lesson and move on.

I am speaking from my experience in my career insurance which includes property and casualty knowledge and I deal with claims of 'liability' on a daily basis.

I am sorry to hear this happened to you, but now you know not to do it again.

Your best recorce would be to post it on social media along woth photos (if any were taken).

Other than info, welcome to the forum, hope your little guy does ok.

They aren't liable for that nor is it their fault. Nobody should be using anything stick on that the snake can remove and get stuck on inside the cage because that's unfortunatelt what happens. I feel that if you take this to social media it will backfire but that is of course your choice. As minkness said, lesson learned, move on. Now you know better and hopefully your snake didn't get hurt. We all make mistakes.

Agree with everyone else. If your snake gets caught on anything sticky again use olive oil. I had an accident with baby corns and electrical tape. They were super stuck on the eye and jaw and everywhere really. They slid themselves right off the tape after the oil soaked in between the tape and scales. No damage no missing scales not even a mark to tell anything happened to them at all.

I am so sorry this happened to you and your poor baby.
Good tip with the olive oil! I will keep that info in the reserves.
