Tub for Apollo

Sooooo.... yeah I decided since Apollo is just not doing well in the 20 gallon long I'm going to put him into a tub and hopefully get him eating again. He just seems stressed.

I got a Sterilite 15qt (16.5x13x7) today but I am not sure if that is the right size. It's roughly the size of a 10 gallon. The others looked too big.

Are these ok to heat with a UTH? I still plan to control the heat with that thinger mickbob (sorry, I had a big dinner so food coma haha) that's controlling the uth in the 20. It has more than one plug in, so I thought I'd leave the 20 empty but running with the probe in it so he's not moving the probe around. Set up the tub on top of the 20 (or in it, depending on if the kitten will leave it alone. Eventually fill the 20 with something that'll have the same heating temps.

Now to figure out how to get holes in it.

The heating pad shouldn't take up more than 1/3-1/2 of the tub. I generally use heat tape since you can cut it to length. But yes, so long as you're using a thermostat (I assume that's the "thinger mickbob"? lol), it will be fine.

I'm not really understanding what it is you're doing with the 20 gallon and the tub though, sorry.

I usually drill holes into my tubs, be careful not to push too hard or you could crack the plastic. Other people use soldering irons but I no longer have access to one and my holes were always ugly and misshapen.

Yes yes thermostat! haha I really should be asleep cause I feel like I am not making any sense. Anyway about the 20 I was planning on still running the uth on it and the tub uth at the same time since the thermostat has more than one plug in and leave the probe in the 20 so the snake doesn't move the probe around like he's already done so far. Tho looking up tub set up I see people putting the probe directly on the uth then attaching it to the outside. Hmmm. Oh and I mean on where I was going to put the tub since I have a kitten who is getting into everything and I don't want her knocking over something that light.

Hopefully that makes more sense. Otherwise I will figure that means I really should just sleep.

Yeah, you'd put the probe in between the UTH and the bottom of the tub, then use a temp gun to measure the inside surface of the tub to set the thermostat to the correct temperature. You shouldn't be measuring the surface temp of the bedding, but the floor of the tub under it, otherwise the snake could potentially overheat or burn itself if it were to bury itself. Afaik hoggies like to burrow, so there's no worries about it moving closer the UTH if it needs to.

I was always told that with Scorpions putting the heat pad on the bottom would cook them. Not sure how true that is, but to be safe I put mine on the wall of the enclosure so it allows the front half to be cold, and the back to be warm.

With a thermostat regulating the temps it'll be fine. I have the glass 20 (with the temp read from the glass surface) heated with a UTH no problems.

Haha I shouldn't have started this topic when I was that half asleep. Anyway maybe someone will have an opinion on the size of the tub. Kind of thinking I might as well go ahead and buy a soldering gun. In one of my art classes we made wire figures with a soldering iron, might be fun to try that out again, so I'm not just buying it for a one time use haha.

Also what tape should I use?
