The first one is out and one more has pipped this morning, an albino this time.
The normal is a nice, chunky 6.6 grams.
First up, UxI91516-1.

Nice. Are these also known as African House Snakes. If so they are very much on my radar-what are they like to keep?
I've heard they're an interesting addition to a collection and have a feeding response like a mini retic!

Someday I will have a pair of these...yesssss....
Yes, these are African House snakes. There are several subspecies and the Capes, Boaedon capensis, is the most common in the US but easy to confuse with the next most common, the Brown House snake, fuliginosus.
They are interesting to keep. The babies can be very difficult to get started eating but once they do, are very enthusiastic feeders. Males do go on feeding strikes when feeling mating urges though. They don't really have a breeding season and will breed all year long. They are the rodent of the snake family as far as breeding goes, they will breed as young as 4 months and multi clutch, 3 clutches per one mating is typical. As such, it's very important that the female is in very good shape before being exposed to a male, because they will literally breed themselves to death. Would definitely not recommend cohabbing for that reason.
Males stay small, around 2 to 2 1/2 feet and females get between 3 and 5 feet long. They are fast when placed on a surface but are fun to hold, even as babies. They tend to grip your fingers and explore your hands, if startled, they keep their grip with the back half on your fingers and jump away from whatever startled them but don't usually attempt to rocket out of your hands like other baby snakes. They are very strong for their size, like a mini python.

I can't see the photos at work but I was waiting for this :) I'm looking for an albino, hopefully male.

I've seen a few Boaedon Olivaceus conned on the market recently and am very inserted in one. Somewhat rarer than the brown.
Thanks for the info - a very under appreciated snake it would seem

Beautiful!
Took these two pictures last night right before bed. A third egg had pipped, with a very shy normal in it. I still haven't gotten a good look at him!

And the albino baby was out this morning. Striped/patternless and 5.6 grams.

The third House snake out and is 5.1 grams of flight and shyness. No other pips at the moment.
Not interesting in cooperating for pictures ...

congrats on the babies! the albinos look so different than the normals it's hard to believe they came from the same clutch.
And two more pips in the AHS clutch, a normal and an albino.

The 4th AHS baby is out, a 5.5 gram albino. And another egg has pipped, also an albino. That gives us 6 babies in total so far, 3 normals and 3 albinos. Can't complain about those odds!

Is that black dot in the side the yoke? That is so neat to see if it is!
That black dot is one of the organs, I'm not sure which one. But in the same area you can very clearly see the yolk as well. They are very see through in the beginning!

Looking good. gratz on the successful hatchings. Definitely can't complain about the odds on the albinos!
AHS babies 5 and 6 are out. #5 is the littlest yet at 4.5 grams and #6 is 5.7 grams. Got some good egg tooth pictures on #6, the albino.
