Well he's home and settling into his temporary home (suitably sized rub). Haven't managed to get any photos yet but will update the thread as and when I can get some. Just the hard part of leaving him alone to settle (and keeping him hidden from my wife and child).

Very early days I know but during the times I've seen him in the store and at home he hasn't shown any nippy-ness so I'm hoping long may that continue!

Will update on progress as and when.

The name btw is after Horrid Henry (UK kids TV program / book series). Finley has named him even though he doesn't know I've got him! He just said when I get a boy snake that's what he'll be called!

You would be surprised. I bought a new ham radio-much $$$$$-size of a large bit of hi fi, knobs, dials, big colour display the works and I was thinking where the **** can I put this so a) I can user it and b) where my wife wouldn't notice it.

In the end I just put it on my desk in full view and she never noticed it-she takes very little interest in my hobbies.

When we move house I'm officially allowed more reptiles so at that point he'll 'appear' :)

If she finds out in the meantime we'll cross that bridge then...

Sometimes it's better to ask for forgiveness than for permission Danny. Congrats on the new critter. Looking forward to seeing those pictures.

Danny even :) but yes quite agree. Thing is her main objection is space but hey - I've fitted it in!

Pics will follow when I get chance - don't want to disturb him at the moment tempting though it is.

No photos yet but Henry has just took a 20g rat fuzzy. I generally offer a meal after 3 days of settling in if the animal seems comfortable and if they refuse then leave it another 10 days or so. Given that he has been very calm since he arrived I thought I'd give it a go.

Didn't hesitate even for a second and had a very enthusiastic feeding response!! Blasted it.

One thing that surprised me is the size of meal even a slender carpet can take. When the store gave me a supply of rats to get me started I thought there was no way he'd manage it but down it's gone!

Photos will follow in a few days.

You're right about carpets being able to take down large prey Dannny. Don't stuff em but don't underestimate them either.

First photo for the album. Was just looking in to make sure he was OK, water clean etc and he was nicely perched for a quick photo.

Looking rather fat from his rat!

Oh and he's now called Jerry (as in Tom & Jerry)-toddler mind changing and all that. I actually like the irony of a carpet python being named after a mouse!

He remains utterly chilled. No attempt to nip me or the phone. No flinching or getting into a defensive position.

Thanks guys. I'm super happy with him. It was a tough call whether to get hon both domestically and also from the point of view that whilst there are many snakes I want there's a possibility that him and the Boa will be it so it was a case of do I go for it or decide later on something else.

More photos-well because photos. He continues to be completely chilled when handling and he'll be in a proper viv by the end of the week.

Thanks JB. Just a phone shot but the more I use the Samsung S7''s camera the more it surprises me. Will have to get the SLR out and pop on the macro lens and compare the two.

I'm liking Jerry a lot also. I let Finley handle him today and he was absolutely fine with it. Didn't flinch at all.

Not much to report of Jerry (as he is now known) other than he is growing like a weed. The difference is growth rates between a boa and a python is staggering! It's interesting as well the difference girth makes to perceived length. I actually think he and auntie Rachel are about the same length yet he seems the much smaller snake because he is so much more slender.

Still a wonderfully good natured carpet and coming on beautifully.

Very cute picture :D and the growth speed difference is quite something!

Jerry continues to be such a great snake - totally chilled and just a joy to own. He's eating well again since his escape and is settled in to the new house.

Caught him basking under his uv last night. One of his favourite spots at the moment.

One thing that always surprises me when comparing many pythons to say boas is their outrageous growth when young. Hes grown substantially!

He's stunning mate, and if you think he's growth rate is ridiculous wait till the olives and scubs arrive :)

I know. The olives are just machines when it comes to eating and not long until the scrubs now either :)

Seeing as we're doing kids with snakes. Had Jerry out for a bit whilst I was changing water etc.

Finley was very happy to have a hold.
