View Full Version : Ordered me a BEL ball python today!
Ya i couldn't stand it; I had to have me one of these beautiful little girls...
Blue Eyed Leucistic Ball Python for Sale - xyzReptiles (http://www.xyzreptiles.com/shop/baby-blue-eyed-leucistic-ball-python/)
Ok dumb question here! Are ball pythons terrestrial, arboreal, or semi-arboreal?

Congrats on the new BP Satt. BPs are terrestrial critters.

They haven't gotten back to me but to just say my order was received... I'm guessing Thursday... I'm all excited. :bouncy:

That's what I thought, but I wanted to make sure... Thanks
FedEx tracking stated she will be here at 10:00 in the morning... Yaaaaaaaa

Congrats! And bps are definetly ground dwellers, they actually spend a lot of time Underground in abandoned termite dens :D
Congratulations on your new noodle.
Well I am conversing back and forth with XYZ reptiles... Does this look like a paper white snake with bright blue eyes to you?3601436015
Are you unhappy with your purchase sattva? I think he/she looks great. :)

Well, tbh, the pics in the ad you linked looked pretty high contrast and a bit over exposed.
Looks like you have an ivory and not a real BEL. I have one myself and I adore her, but I can understand that you want what you paid for (mine was a rescue, so yeah, nothing paid and no false expectations when I took her on).
Good luck with your dispute.
Fyi, this is why I would only work woth a small breeder or someone at a show. Small breeders have more to loose so are more forthcoming and willing to work with a customer, and at a show, you KNOW what you are paying for because you can physically see it and touch it. Just my opinion of course.
I will mention one thing that sounds sketchy on the site.
"Other Info: Multiple Animals Available - Pics May Vary"
I am fairly certain that I will be getting the next at NARBC/ convention if practical myself.

Not the first time xyz reptiles did the wrong thing by and to the customer. I would definitely return the animal. Be sure to read their t.o.s. ( terms of service).

It is hard to tell much from your pictures with the lighting. Does it have blue to grey eyes? If so than it is a blue eyed luecistic. If the animal is a pinkish color it will become more white with age. They state on their website that it is a mojave lesser which is not known to be the most bel combination. If you want the whitest you need to look for a super lesser, but even they may not be up to your standards. Next time I recommend you do a little more research before purchasing an animal, especially on line.
Ya I was going to hold out for the show coming in a couple of weeks but I was beginning to think I couldn't walk it with my sciatica and back problems...
I was real happy ordering George from a breeder so I thought I try again... I mean they have 15 positive reviews with these little ones...
I am not completely unhappy with her and I am already growing fond of her but a paper white snake with bright blue eyes she is not! at least not yet!
She came with no info... No date of birth, no data on feeding... Its now like pulling teeth to get them to answer my questions... PR! Whats that? Grrrrrr

I see it too. I don't know much in terms of bp morphs but thats not a bright white snake.

Ya she has a pattern... I will learn to love her, she is just not what I was expecting...
Well... they don't do returns and I named her Crystal so shes mine now!

=(
I actually really like her. The super pale markings are really neat. But I fully understand your position about it. You payed for something and didn't gwt it. But who knows, she could very well loose the pattern completely and end up pure white with silver eyes (i actually really love her eyes to be honest. The bringht blues are nice, but those faded silver get me!)
Ok lets have an age guessing game... How old do you think she is?

i looked at the 1st picture and the latest one. to me, it looks like the same snake.

She's a very pretty snake either way and Crystal is a great name for her. I understand your disappointed of course but she's still a keeper in my book.
I guess we're lucky in the uk because any breeder / store is no more than a few hours drive away so if we really want something we can go and see it in person usually.
I haven't been brave enough to by online or from a breeder yet but that may be about to change!

What is her weight?
Yesterday she seemed a little lethargic to me... I literally, slightly, shook her in my hand to see if she had enough strength to hold on... She did... This is my first ball python so I am unfamiliar with their personality... This morning she is all over the cage so I know she is ok... I just wish they would get back to me on her age and feeding habits... It's like pulling teeth with these people...
Is it normal for her to bob her head up and down when she lifts the front 1/3 of her body up? Could this be her nature, youth, or a sign of something else?

I kind of like her myself. Sure she's not paper white but I like that bit of pink to her.
Not the first time I have heard not so great things about XYZ.

She's still a fantastic looking animal. I bet she is about 2.5 - 3 months old. Next time you want a ball python consider buying from a pioneer in bp breeding. Garrick Demeyer who owns and operates RoyalConstrictorDesigns. His terms of service are much more customer friendly. Unmatched quality in and quality out.
Ok... They called and reassured me that she will turn white and they will take her back in two months if I'm not happy with her... She is 4 weeks old ... He wanted a head shot in the sun; thought maybe all i'm seeing is pupil and no iris.. I still don't see any blue...

I'm seeing some blue, but it's a very pale washed out blue. But that's only the lighter areas of her eyes. The other part looks like a charcoal color.

Oh and your consumer laws Stateside suck. We have so much protection in the UK it is unreal.
I would be able to return that snake under about 4 different laws (not that I would necessarily want to - as I say she's very cute)!
People complain that our prices are much higher but then so is our protection when something goes wrong.

Haha, so true Danny.
Also, I kinda love her eyes! They look like shattered pewter or silver!
Well I got yesterday what I'v wanted for over a year... A blue eyed snake!... Well I have had her for two weeks now but yesterday I saw some blue there... It's hard to get good pictures but here ya go...

If they would have put some sort of cover sheet, to tell me what to expect, I wouldn't have had to pull teeth to get info out of them... I'll will never do business with XYZ reptiles again...

I think she's a little beauty.
All blue-eyed Lucys are not created equal. There are several different morphs that are considered BELs and some are whiter than others. Mojave Lessers aren't a particularly crisp white. Individuals will also vary from each other. Some may have bright blue eyes, some may have silvery blue eyes, etc. They will also change color as they mature. I have a pair of Super Mojaves that are brighter white than your girl is but they still have a faint yellowish cast to them and a light purplish shadow on their heads. You'd see a brighter white than that with a Super Lesser but you'd also pay a premium for it.
XYZ could have saved themselves some bad PR by simply responding to your questions and being level with you from the get-go. When a customer has questions or concerns about their new animal, taking the head-in-the-sand approach is not the way to go. I've had the same problem (I'm looking at you, ReptMart) trying to get answers after a sale and it's frustrating.

Ya i'm happy with her now... Shes not paper white as advertised but I can live with that... It was her eyes that was really important to me...
I didn't realize you can have a BEL in just about any species... Check this out! Good price... Texas rat Snake (http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/pet/5784191265.html)

They are born with them. Not too many have them.
Also, that's a run of the mill BEL. All their eyes are like that. They can vary a bit with the blue hue but that's certainly a BEL.
Odd about the pattern. I'd keep her myself based on the pattern and I wouldn't be surprised if she's got something hidden in her morphology. Or that she is a mix of say lesser and het russo or another combo in the BEL complex.

I know they are born that way lol
I must not see the 'good' ones often because right now I have seen more with the bug eyes than normal eyes.

I have a luecistic black rat snake and her eyes are more light grey than blue and she has a yellow tint to her. They are very similar to the Texas rats, same species I believe. Neat snakes, very smart in my opinion.

I saw Big Apple Herp selling regular BEL Texas rat snakes and then "bug eyes" for a higher price a while back. Some people like the look of the bug eyes and will drop an extra $20 for one but it's my understanding that it's a defect which responsible breeders are trying to minimize, not exploit.

Yeah, if I want a naturally bug eyed snake, I'd get a trans pecos rat snake lol.
I love the BEL Texas rats though. Then again, I'm a sucker for almost any white snake lol.
