View Full Version : What is this?
Hope this is the place to post this. I found this in our pool and have never seen this color of snake before. I tried getting closer but he kept striking at me.

A location would be helpful, but it appears to be a Common Sharp-tailed Snake (Contia tenuis). A harmless fossorial species found in California, Oregon, and Washington. Could you confirm the location?

The OP's 'hi' thread confirms Oregon...
Yes, I'm from Oregon but I'm in California right now at my mother's house. I was just checking to make sure it wasn't some exotic venomous species so my mother wouldn't worry. I figured it wasn't so I let it go and it disappeared into the garden area.

That's why I ask, thanks for confirming.
Thanks for the replies, my mother feels safer now. The only venomous snakes I have ever seen were Water Moccasin back in Ohio and rattlers here.
