View Full Version : Guess that morph!
I was trolling CL seeing what is being sold. I see a number of ball pythons, but rarely any giants.
So, the question is what is this? I did attempt to look it up and the closest I came was a ball x burmese mix. I don't think it is right, but something to talk about.
Labelled as a "baby albino Burmese Python".

Looks like a baby albino burmese. Maybe in the middle of a shed because it's very dull looking. Looks really young maybe it hasn't had its first shed yet and that's why it looks so dull.

Yup. Burms are SUPER cute babies!
Ok. I was going off color mostly. Seemed much lighter than everything else. Thanks.

Could also be the lighting, due to how light albinos are it's very easy to whitewash any color away.

I keep having the opposite problem with my amel retic. Keeps coming out oranger than he is frustrating for sure!
Let me revive this thread. I found another ad. This doesn't seem that good for the snake in question. She looks pretty small for a female and the cage doesn't look set up.

Thoughts?

A standard 55g aquarium is 48Wx12D which doesn't look big enough for that snake. Odds are that anyone keeping a burm in a 55g doesn't know how to keep reptiles and sadly might be purchased by someone else who doesn't know how to keep reptiles much less handling a giant. Looks like quite a bit of length but not girth could be a younger snake not yet filled out width wise or not fed properly.
I assume in the best case, she is younger than the 7 years posted in the ad. In this case, how old do you think she is?
I am guessing by not fed properly she is stunted and will likely remain around this size, no?

Oh man, that breaks my heart.. She looks so skinny! In that last picture you can see her spine protruding so far, I hope I'm wrong but that's just.. wow.. If she's 7 years old, she hasn't had proper care for any of those years :(
I did see that. Recalled it from something BSG commented on way back regarding a triangular shape. She should be more of a trapezoid shape, no?
I did request some stats on her background, but heard nothing back.
Also, something else that struck me as odd: The mention of an electronic sprayer. WTF?
Same with that dish...
That's a very emaciated burm. :(

Definitely underweight, in a barren and unsatisfactory tank. :/ The electronic mister/sprayer is common, but in a proper set up shouldn't be necessary.
Being so underweight, I wouldn't doubt it's 7 years old, but I wouldn't necessarily say it's stunted. It will likely get normal adult size, or close to it, with some proper feeding and enough time.

Just goes to show what happens when people buy these beautiful big snakes and don't know what they're doing or what they've got themselves into, it's heartbreaking to see. This is one of the reasons why we try to vet people so closely at the shop when we're selling large snakes
Is there any point in starting a "Worst of Craigslist: Reptile Edition" thread?
I enjoy those threads but they can be depressing for sure. Make sure to take screenshots so everyone can see even when the ad's gone.
My "favourite" local ad was for a boa that was occasionally fed live squirrels when they couldn't find rats.

For me it's Facebook selling groups. Theta one particular one where you see some truly upsetting sights.
Fortunately the admin for the group are brilliant and they are happy to support members who call out poor husbandry and often ban members who take the ****.
It always amazes me when people try and defend themselves-'I've been keeping reptiles all my life etc' or 'it only looks that bad because it's in shed'. No it looks that bad because it's half dead.
I try and stay out of most things but sometimes I see an animal so poorly kept and so badly misdescribed that I can't keep my mouth shut!
