Hi! New snake owner here.

Figured I'd connect to other owners since having experience at your fingertips is always nice. This is Sam, not sure if it's a boy or girl though I refer to it as "he," I've actually had him for a month now, and he's getting ready for his 2nd shed since I brought him home. He is just about 16 inches and no idea on weight, as my gram scale broke (still have one from when I did hair and had to weigh the color). Has only refused his food once (today, because of oncoming shed, I'd imagine) and is finally becoming tolerant of being handled. Only reared back once at me, that was after a friend scared the bejeezus out of him, but didn't strike. All in all, I think he's a good first to have.

REM955 to be completely honest, I can't really give an accurate answer as this is my first snake. But compared to other reptiles (lizards and such), the thing I LOVE about his guy is that I don't have to have a darn roach colony fired up for feeding him. LOL Can't wait til he's a bit longer to drape him on me as I'm playing a game or whatnot. He already balls up in my palm and rests his chin on my hand, just enjoying the ride as I carry him around while cleaning out his cage, getting his mouse ready, etc.

here's him sleeping in my hand, I pull him out, he explores a bit, then usually coils up and goes to sleep. This time he didn't coil up.

Yeah, I was sold him under the assumption that he'd be a Children's, as I was oooh'd over the idea of a PYTHON staying small. Still, reading up on the spotteds, 4.5' is still small enough for me. Couple questions though. If he IS a spotted, thus possibly get bigger than a Children's, will I need a larger tank than this 20g long? Also, at 16 inches, and I saw the record the store had (if correct, he had eaten a pinkie every week then 1 fuzzie before I bought him, has had 5 fuzzies now), about what age could you guestimate him to be? The guy at the store didn't know or have that on its record. Record showed 3 feedings of pinkie. Also, what could be done better with the cage? Do these guys do well in a naturalistic setup? Plants such as pothos and ivies?

Just shed for the second time tonight since I brought him home. As in, like, within the past hour or so. Here's a pic of the shed, but I just can't seem to get a good pic of him through the glass with my terrible camera. Also just fed him the day before, and he already dropped a load. Don't really want to take him out for a pic at the moment as he doesn't seem like he wants to be bothered, had to to see if he had shed his eyecaps as the piece in the pic doesn't have them, but seems he did as they're nice and crystal clear with no scruffiness on his nose. Now he's just chillin', coiled up in front of the tank and sleeping.
