View Full Version : The obligatory guess what snake I've just bought thread

So after months of threatening to do so I have finally bought a second snake for my collection! As you regulars will know I've been mooting a few possibilities but I'm really really pleased with my choice.

So what have I bought. Clues-it's not a particularly uncommon snake, in fact is go as far to say it's pretty common.

What makes it a little unusual is that it's a wild type of one of the lesser chosen localities and it has 100% known lineage so absolutely fulfils my criteria for my collection.

Oh and it's pretty as all hell :)

So, what have I got?! One clue-it's not a boa of any make or model...

No to both. My favoured store did have some mandarins in not so long ago-don't come across them too often.

El Ziggy has it! A very lovely male IJ carpet from Paul Harris (one of the UK's most respected python breeders).

Ticks all the boxes for me! CB15 and still such a little thing. Seemed calm enough in the store but appreciate the odd nip is pretty much guaranteed at first one he's home.

As yet unnamed and just setting the enclosure up before I fetch him home.

Couple of quick phone shots attached

For some reason (either me being blind or some genuine technical reason) I can't see the edit post button on my one above.

I should say a carpet wasn't top of the list but every time I've been in the store the last few weeks I've been drawn toward this little chap. Just something about him that made me call in love so I took that as a good sign-it's how I chose Auntie Rachel after all.

Plus finding a locality carpet with cast iron lineage is not the easiest thing. They also had a jungle from Paul also but I love the subtly of an adult IJ and they're a little less common in pure wild type.

Once he's home and settled I'll start a proper progression thread but in the meantime through store's stock pic also.

I've seen a few of his snakes for sale locally to me, including his albino carpets... Nice snakes and looks like you've picked up a stunner! :)

Thanks guys. They have a few of his in. Beautiful zebra jungle as well as a wild type jungle and one of his albinos also.

The albino is apparently completely psychotic! Looks it too, every time I've seen it it looks like it would go for you the moment the viv was opened! Stunning snake though.

They did have a female IJ also but wasn't quite as cleanly marked.

It's interesting too how the girth of a snake plays a part in the overall perception of length. When I saw him I initially thought he was somewhat shorter than Auntie Rachel but actually I think he's just as long if not longer but so much slimmer.

Can't wait to get him home! Just got to work out how to keep him hidden from the wife!

OMG. I WON! I'm so happy and proud to receive this prestigious award. I'd like to thank everyone who helped me get here! My family, the forum members and most of all my wonderful snakes. There's was no way I would have guessed the answer correctly without them! Dreams really do come true. Thank you all! ;)

Beautiful IJ Danny. Great choice. Paul Harris is a guru of Morelia. Carpets are unlike any other snake imo. I hope you really enjoy the new guy!

Thanks guys.

You know I love my boas El Ziggy and was so seriously tempted by a Dumerils or Dominican but I have a boa so fancied something different and so many people rave about carpets. They are very beautiful snakes in pretty much all localities and even morphs.

Am hoping to get him home this week, maybe Thursday if not the weekend at the latest.

Sweet carpet Danny! I used to strictly keep carpets years ago. They're a fun snake to add to your collection. Hope you enjoy your new friend.
