I bought myself a little present a few weeks ago, and he arrived this morning. As you may have guessed it is a colubrid, and I will also say he is quite colorful. Here is what he arrived in. Any guesses as to what it may be?

Is it a lampropeltis

RAD House

It is not. They are much less fond of dry places.

Well, I know you are fond of the blue T.s. concinnus! Could that be the mystery out of the box? Blue red spotted garter? Congrats either way.

I do love those blues Albert, just can't stomach the prices I have found. I will have some room for another garter as I up their enclosure in the next few months. So if you know anyone who many produce Pugets, hint hint.

Very close geographically with the checkered guess mink.

All the colorful garters I can think of have red but you said no reds!

Is it a t.radix?

Southern species will make me think eastern blackneck garter. They have some beautiful lateral white coloration and a bright yellow dorsal stripe. ? Southwestern actually.

They are one of the most underappreciated group of snakes in the hobby in my opinion.

Yeah, when I talk all excitedly about my future garters, people look at me sideways. Then I pull a photo from google and show them and they be all like O.O whaaat?

Haha. I am super excited to start my garter collection for aure. Just have a few other things tobwork out first and of course have them available.

Nice! I keep a coĺony of them myself! Amazing choice. They are really special and have amazing feeding responses. When they strike on the tongs you'll feel it too.

That's cool Mink, i'll take the blame. Haha. As long as I keep snakes there will always be a garter. Something about them that is just fascinating.

If you are on a garter snake page on the book then most likely.

I don't know the parents of this only have a little streaking between bars and have a pretty a pretty clean pattern. I had him send me the highest contrast animal so I don't he will lose his pattern.

This is my one year old virgin female eastern blackneck garter. They really don't lose that patterning or coloration as they age. Sorry for the bad lighting.

This is a 1 year old male eastern blackneck who also hasn't lost that juvenile patterning.

Thanks Mink! They are a very terrific looking garter that is a real pleasure to own. These eastern black necks have a amazing kill strike on their prey. They are unbelievably accurate when they strike out too. I love them.

Luckily as long as you separate by sex you can keep a group of several different species in one enclosure. No reason not to get them all Mink.

I am excited to be keeping this species. He is no bigger than a worm at this point, but he shows no sign of being nervous whatsoever.

I saw some garters for the first time today. Impossibly cute snakes and not one I'd considered before but I'm beginning to feel left out with all of you getting them!

Garters always remind me of the time I TA'ed for my favorite biology teacher way back in middle school and she had a garter snake. On my down time I'd take him out and hold him. Pretty chill little snake for a garter and probably what got me interested in snakes in the first place. I do think I startled the kids with how fearless I'd be about holding him. Or just holding a snake in the first place.
