weather snakes?

the other night we had a very bad thunder storm. my dog did his usual shaking, whining and hiding under my chair. i was surprised to see that mac seemed affected, too. he was climbing all over the place and managed to dig a hole under his heavy water dish! he had the substrate all over his tank and i had to do a cleaning job. he is active at night but this was different. could he have been reacting to the storm? i know dogs, horses etc., get jumpy but has anyone ever heard of a snake acting like that?

I wouldn't be surprised, snakes can sense things like dogs and cats can............I think?

Snakes do often seem to sense storms. Mine get restless and climb the sides of their cages. Some people swear that if you've got a reluctant eater, you can try feeding it during a thunderstorm as they are more likely to accept food then. Not sure if it's true as I've not tested it.

I have a pair of golden weather loaches (they look like eels) in one of my fish tanks that go bonkers before storms. It's how they got their common name... they used to be kept as pets by sailors and fishermen, who used them to warn of incoming bad weather. Neat fish, very friendly and curious and they are inseparable companions.

Ball pythons spend much of their time in the wild inside termite mounds. Makes sense that they'd be hardwired to be on the move when it rains.

But, generally, I've found that weather explains odd behavior but the odd behavior doesn't occur every time it rains.

They also are very attuned to pressure changes in their enviornment and in the atmosphere. Air pressure changes occur when it storms and rains causing in effect a osmotic type of change which bp are sensitive to. Thats why most breeders will tell you when it rains and storms is the best time to pair up your females and males to produce reception and locks.
