Snake from The Labyrinth

I am having a lazy Sunday watching some childhood favorites, which of course includes The Labyrinth. There is a really neat looking snake in one of the scene that I can not seem to figure out the species. It is a black and red snake with a checkered belly. I am thinking some sort of water or king snake. Here are some pictures which are not the best quality.

i 3rd water snake species. although hard to see the head completely the head to me looks all nerodia.

I wish I could find a water snake as red as that.

The Southern water snake is the one that most closely seems to resemble the one in the picture. Nerodia fasciata pictiventris. The polymorphic and polygenic conditions in Nerodia is widespread thus specimens from similar locales will have high variability. I took a couple of pics that seem close to the pictured one.

This is another Nerodia fasciata pictiventris. Both of their belly scales are described as white or yellow with reddish brown markings either scattered or paired on every other scale.

Sure. I was trying to find pictures of the ventral scales to get a good sense of the checkerboarding pattern and coloration but no luck.

I was a few pictures of broadbanded water snakes with checkered bellies so it is certainly possible.
