Hello,

If you are thinking of creating fake "naturalistic" walls for your enclosure you might find this helpful.

Fake walls harbor germs, so I would not use them.

These seem to me more for the observer then the health of the animal...
Just saying... I could be wrong... It has happen before... It will surely happen again...

One could argue for aboreal lizards it provides a surface to climb on and also can make shy snakes feel more secure in glass tanks.

Yup, good reasons for sure. I wouldsay just to make sure that the material is waterproof. =)

Insects bit in to them and lay eggs that is the start of your problems

It all depends on how intricate you make them. In my opinion, you can make a nice carved background that is easy to sanitize. I plan on doing one for my boa enclosure.

was't there someone on here a few months ago that made a really sweet talus formation for rattlesnakes? I wish i could remember that thread this would be very similar to that topic!

Possibly mine?

Been using fake rock formations and real rock stuff for years, I heard the same "Going to get your snakes sick" when I started natural enclosures some 16 years ago. Now it's all the rage.

I personally would make formations that you could easily remove instead of fixing them to the cages and glass. Easier to clean and remove the animals if you need to get to them in a pinch instead of waiting for them to show themselves. Otherwise, that's pretty good workmanship.

I'm actually breaking ground tonight for a 2 piece outcrop for my neo Beaded.

I believe so! i remember it was pretty awesome looking! very natural looking and your rattlesnakes seemed to love it very much. So i think if done right you have nothing to worry about when you are using walls.
