Hi all!
I'm getting ready to purchase a Herpstat2 for a second ball python cage, but I'm wondering if I use it on two cages to regulate temp, if the cages have to be the same size?
The hatchling I am purchasing will be in a smaller cage than my 17 year old ball for a while until it grows.
Thanks for the help!

Each outlet will have a separate temp probe to individually regulate the 2 heat sources plugged into the herpstat. I use the herpstat 4 because they have a night drop option. (I also have multiple enclosures to regulate, lol.) If you want the same temp on 2-3 tanks a Helix works well enough assuming you use the same size/type of heat source on the tanks.

The Herpstat 2 can control each heat source independently. I'm using a Herpstat 2 to control the heat panels in my 2 stacked T12's. Just set the day time temp for each outlet to the temp you'll need to reach the target temp inside the cage. For example, my top enclosure is Outlet 1, and is set to 82F for a target temp of ~90F in the top half of the enclosure, and the bottom enclosure is Outlet 2, and set to 84F for a target temp of ~90F in the top half of the enclosure.
The probes are on the bottom of the basking shelves, so the temps on the thermostat have to be lower. What is warm enough to heat the bottom of the enclosure to 90F would make the top half of the cage over 100F, and overheat the snake in the enclosure above it.
The size of the enclosures shouldn't matter, although you should make sure the combined power of the heating elements doesn't exceed what the unit can take.

Thanks for the info! I ordered a Herpstat 2 last night, while they are still on sale :)
