View Full Version : YT Cribo Doesn't Seem To Use Hides
So my yellow tail Cribo does not seem to be using any hides. At least that's what I'm observing when I'm around. I've never seen it in any of its hides since day one. I have one on the cool side and two on the hot with one being a humid hide. It will lay right next to them partially buried in the aspen bedding. Not sure what to make of this???

Some snakes don't like actual hides and prefer to dig. If they're half in substrate, that could be why. If there's a hide in the cool and hot, and then one in the middle, then I wouldn't worry too much. Sometimes my corn likes to sit right out in the open by her water dish, or next to the glass in plain view, even though she has plenty of places to hide in.

same with mac. after a meal, he likes to chill under his plastic tree. it never fails, that's where he goes.

Are you observing during the day or night? Most adult drymarchon are always cruising around their enclosures during the day looking for a meal. I wouldn't be very worried as long as she doesn't rub her nose off. If you have a large enclosure try pvc pipe half under substrate. They're a unique kind of snake.

I observe both during the day, evening and late at night. I check on her with a flashlight during the night and she lays right next to her hides. I'm not worried much because she acts normal otherwise. I'll try the PVC buried avd see how that goes.
Also, as of now she's in a 4'x2'x18" melamine enclosure. Seems to be large enough at this point as she's just around 4'.

Sounds good, you would know if she wasn't pleased. I did irrigation for a few years so pvc was free. Home Depot sells coregated drain pipe which might be better for cutting than pvc. If you use pvc just make sure to sand the ends smooth.
My cribo must have know I made this thread and wanted to make me look like a liar. The past three days I've seen here in hides all over the enclosure. She's currently in the humid hide. She does look a bit dull and her eyes aren't as clear looking. She might be coming up on a shed.
