I brought home a baby red tail boa today and got him into his enclosure. I decided to use a Rubbermaid tub for his enclosure and being my first time using this type of enclosure I didn't think to get a thermostat controller for the heat pad. I can't get one near by so I ordered one and should be here by tuesday or Wednesday. I got my room temp at 80 for the mean time. Should he be fine till then?
That will be fine. Make sure you don't feed until you can provide the correct hot spot. Just an fyi, ALL heat pads or heat tape for ALL kinds of enclosure MUST be controlled. :)
Isn't it amazing how most local pet store franchises don't carry thermostats?! Or at least they don't in my area.... It worries me thinking about all the uncontrolled heat mats roaming around my city

Honestly, raising snakes when I was younger I remember being told heat rocks were the devil, but no one ever mentioned thermostats, and the internet wasn't available to me back then. I'm glad nothing ever died on me or had serious injury. :\

When I was 8 or 8 years old I remember one of my red sided garter snakes wrapping around the heat rock and getting a severe burn. Those things are junk even when controlled because they can develop hot spots. I haven't used one since.
