I've been doing this kids trip for 6 years now. It's become a Memorial Day tradition. There were about 30 kids this year. Some were into snakes, others not so much. But the end of the trip, most of the kids that didn't like snakes were holding them.
Palm Springs, CA. We spend the days out by the pool and nights road cruising.
About 15 snakes were found in about 4 hours of cruising over two nights. A highlight this year were the Rosy Boas. We found 4 of them!
Here's a short video of the action.

That vid was so cool Lou! The music was very appropriate and had me dancing in my chair, lol. I felt like i was right there. Thanks bc my ties to the Golden state run deep anyway.

So cool! I live on the other side of the mountain and visit Palm Springs often. I've never seen a snake in the wild [never looked for one either] except for when they would come into the apartment complex I lived at as a kid so it's fun to see what's in the area! I also love whenever kids are involved. Nice video and awesome event!

Thanks so much. Late April until early July snakes can be seen at night out there. The desert has a magical feel at night. Thanks for taking the time to watch.

I go to a bar out there so I totally agree with the feel it has at night. Even just driving through at night is awesome. Mostly, I don't try to go field herping because I have no idea what I'm doing and I'll probably end up running across a rattlesnake and you know, getting bitten because I'm an idiot who has no idea what she's doing just doesn't sound like a grand idea. Haha one day when I have a little bit more experience and such. We have fields every couple of miles out here so I'm sure there are a ton of snakes. Our museum actually has 'beware of rattlesnake' signs which is interesting. I was surprised to see those but it makes perfect sense.
Thanks for sharing the video Lou. That's a nice event you do for the kids to educate and get them to experience snakes in a fun and safe way. They all looked like they were having a blast!!!
