The short answer for your question is that your monitor will survive eating the egg. But from here on out you need to be feeding nothing but whole prey. For now it will be a variety of gut loaded insects.
Also start working on the adult enclosure. It will need to be 4 feet wide, 8 feet long, and 4 feet tall. It will need to hold soil that is two feet deep; the entire enclosure will weigh roughly 2000 lbs, make sure that your floor/foundation is capable of bearing the weight. (You might need to consult an architectural engineer.)
Good luck with the lizard. I followed the advice on that site and my male savannah monitor is still going strong after 5 years.
