Hey guys,

My carpet python is whistling when he hisses at me. Hes still a young carpet and still in that defensive state, and i just took him out and noticed whistling. Is it an RI? How do i treat it? Thanks. Hot spot is about 88 degress

It could purely be part of the hiss or related to stress, but I would certainly raise and keep that hot spot a couple degrees to 90-92. 88 is slightly too cool.

Alright. Forgot to mention that ambient humidity is 60% and the whistling only happens when he hisses at me.

It could be the slight onset of something, or it could be paranoia. Either way, I would bump up the hotspot a little as Andy G mentioned, and you should be okay. Catch these things in the early stages and you can alleviate issues before they occur.

You may want to do a deep cleaning of the enclosure as well and place him on unprinted white paper towels until you can really get a sense of where this is coming from.

Any chance that he's in shed? That can cause whistling when they're doing their defensive heavy breathing.

Inconsistent whistling while under stress is not abnormal...especially if it's only while your snake is trying to ward you off with hissing. Absolutely nothing sounds abnormal at this point.
